Our great 2008 GF victory has a large influence on this lineup. Jake T might be a surprise inclusion at prop but his performances there in 2015 were unforgettable. The way he played in 2015 was the biggest highlight of that season for me

Bigger surprise is Beaver missing out while Hall, Perry and Galuvao made it. But I guess that's what makes this thread interesting. Different takes from different generations.

I have no doubt that if I started supporting the Sea Eagles earlier than 04 then Beaver definitely would have made my 17. Galuvao to me was essential to our 2011 title and Hall was a fine player in a great side. I also didn’t want to leave my side too short on props which is why Perry and Galuvao got the nod on the bench.

That 08 side is legendary. I’m still in awe that they went through a finals series scoring 110 points while only conceding 12, and they topped it off with the greatest grand final victory over a salary cap cheating side

@Chip and Chase good team, I hadn't seen that when I just suggested a 'cult-hero' team in the Toovey's greatest thread!

Oh no, @BOZO won't be able to select his favourite!

I can't really do these greatest ever teams, I always get stuck on No 1 and after that, what's the point @

Didn't go Ben Kennedy because he wasn't with us for long

Interesting take on different teams.

Nice work @Jay Eagle .

The criteria being "played in that position for Manly that you've seen play live" makes it tricky and a bit guilt ridden.

Wombat v Snake - don't remember them playing anywhere but fullback for us - rep sides different....Snake highlights just bring a smile to my face.

Bozo v Lyon v Snoz v Matai, Gartner, Hill?

Where does Turbo sit against these guys? He's our fullback but wing/centre for NSW & Aust, shows how highly he's rated but I couldn't put him above Snake...yet he's getting closer.

Irvine, Mooney, Robbo, Wolfie - do they have to lose out to guys like Turbo, Snoz, Shearer etc due to being specialist wingers?
Cliffy is a standout at 6 but finished up at hooker and/or interchange
Tooves 7 or hooker?
Ian Martin, Dessie, Beaver you could put anywhere ...and they were, would be some of your first picked in any team, anywhere.
Same for Shearer, could/did play 1- 5 at rep level and probs even 6 at a pinch
BK, Jake, Randall, Kite, Roberts can cover lock, 2nd row, prop... and did, also at rep level pretty much.

I think only @Freddo has put in Boustead which shows how unbelievably hard it is and also that we've been blessed and entertained with some pure classy wingers over the years. I feel bad that I left him out.

Also interestingly is how many don't have DCE in their squads yet he's our captain and the incumbent Qld and Aust halfback...and wins games for us.

I had Phil Blake at 7 due to my memories of as a 14/15yo and what he brought to the game...still our top try scorer in a season... 27 which I think is still a modern day record.
He played centre, 6 and 7 but also went onto play 1, 13 and 9 at various clubs.
Is he a better halfback that Tooves or DCE?
No, but bloody hell he tore the place up for two seasons and that's what it's all about.

Happy Easter everyone...

Love the new Football Club membership card and looking forward to my scarf.

Been following closely since about ‘93.

Max krilich and kerry bousted very unlucky for positional but this would do me every day of the week. Who wants to play these guys ?

Tezza was never the best passer so he would be a modern day master on the wing , getting sidetracked from the concept a bit

Brett Stewart
Tom Mooney
Bob Fulton
Jamie Lyon
Ken Irvine
Geoff Toovey
Cliff Lyons
Lurch O'niell
Max Krilich
Ian Roberts
Terry Randall
Steve Menzies
Malcolm Reilly (Capt)

Coach .. Biscuits ..

PSS ..If that Mungo T-Rex could score 20 tries outside Killer .... Irvine and Mooney would get to triple fiqures .... can you imagine in the day of inside/outside centres Fulton and Killer combining in a deep backline move .... better than pornhub ..

.... and good luck to anybody wanting to take that forward pack on ...
Interesting choice of captain! Great side though.

An impossible task, but this thread got me wondering - in what game did Manly run out with its greatest ever line-up? For example, if every Manly player since 1947 was given a score out of 10. Bozo Fulton would be a 10. On which day between 1947 and 2020 did Manly have its best team on the field?

The 1976 grand final team for example:
1. Graham Eadie
2. Tom Mooney
3. Russel Gartner
4. Bob Fulton (c)
5. Rod Jackson
6. Alan Thompson
7. Gary Stephens
8. John Harvey
9. Max Krilich
10. Terry Randall
11. Steve Norton
12. Phil Lowe
13. Ian Martin

I don't expect anyone to post a reply. I just find this an interesting puzzle. The 1972 grand final team was quite strong too. But when you look at some other Manly grand final teams, you can spot a few players in the line-up who you wonder how they got there.

The best could have been some long forgotten game. For example, this is Rd 3 from 1983:

1. Graham Eadie
2. John Ribot de Bresac
3. Phil Sigsworth
4. Noel Cleal
5. Kerry Boustead
6. Alan Thompson (c)
7. Phil Blake
8. Paul McCabe
9. Les Boyd
10. Paul Vautin
11. Dave Brown
12. Ray Brown
13. Geoff Gerard

Or Rd 21 in 1996. Only OJ never played Test footy.
1. Matthew Ridge
2. Danny Moore
3. Craig Innes
4. Terry Hill
5. John Hopoate
6. Nik Kosef
7. Geoff Toovey (c)
8. David Gillespie
9. Jim Serdaris
10. Mark Carroll
11. Owen Cunningham
12. Steve Menzies
13. Daniel Gartner
