Hi All,
here is a bit of fun to pass away the down time, lets come up with OUR OWN BEST Manly side, each to their own and theres only a few rules ( 3).

1- the players you select in your side (17 and two reserves Include a coach) you must have seen them play.

2- The players chosen must have played in that position for Manly

3- Name the day or time you became a Manly fan, it should be one of those moments you can never forget ( Unless you where born into it, but even then there will be a day that sticks out that made you the Silvertail you are today)

For me Ive been supporting the mighty Eagles since 1972 and that huge GF win, as a 5 year old sitting there watching my first game (and what a game to watch) I fell in love with the Eagles, never looked back since and boy oh boy have I had so much to celebrate since then. Thank you Manly!

We should get a mix of some fantastic teams:

1- Brett Stewart
2- Tom Trbojevic
3- Jamie Lyon
4- Bob Fulton
5- Michael O' Connor
6- Cliff Lyons
7- John Gibbs
8- Ian Roberts
9- Max Krillich
10- Kevin Ward
11- Terry Randall
12- Steve Menzies
13- Malcom Reilly

14- Geoff Toovey
15- Ben Kennedy
16- Mark Carroll
17- Nik Kosef

You broke your own rules because Snoz never actually played wing for Manly. In fact, not one of his club games in Australia was played on the wing, not for St George and not for Manly.

Anyway. I've been a fan since 1982. A week after the Grand Final, they actually showed the game on Adelaide television, a rare event in itself since Aussie rules was the LONG established #1 sport and rugby league was that funny thing they played in Sydney. We may have lost, but I fell in love with the Sea Eagles that day.

I was born into it at Delmar Hospital in Dee Why in '62 to a RL playing father from Harden in western NSW and went to many Brooky games in nappies.

It's nigh on impossible to pick the best players since then coz there were enough to name four or five great 17's.
Great players from different era's and differing types of RL.

My 17 best players would be different to what would make up the best "team".

This is my best TEAM.

I first started supporting Manly in 1975, my first game was on 1976 the next year against Penrith at Brookvale, What a time to start loving the club as Manly were in a very dominant era, winning four times in 7 years.

Can't exactly remember when I started supporting Manly, ( when people ask me why I just tell them that I was born a winner and why wouldn't you support Manly, generally shuts them up).
I reckon I was around 5 or 6 so '73/74, my older brother went for them, my Dad was a Magpie supporter, my other brother went for the Dragons so I obviously made the right choice!

So many favourites/greats that I left out or have forgotten
Bozo - unfortunately I don't remember a lot of him playing for Manly, more the Roosters
Wombat, Steve Martin, Tezza, Allan Thompson, Gartners x 2, Kosef, Gifty, Rowdy, Crusher, Fatty, Krilich, Randall, Cement, Steve Bell, Jason King, Robbo, Luke Dorn ( just checking if anyone actually reads this far)

  • Matai - Feel guilty leaving out the "Hitman"
  • Crusher Cleal - Up with the most destructive runners to play the game
  • Kite - Improved to become Top shelf at Manly - deserved 2008 GF Mom award
  • Taupau/ AFB - both big and strong, but a few ahead up front imo....

PSS ..If that Mungo T-Rex could score 20 tries outside Killer .... Irvine and Mooney would get to triple fiqures .... can you imagine in the day of inside/outside centres Fulton and Killer combining in a deep backline move .... better than pornhub ..

.... and good luck to anybody wanting to take that forward pack on ...

Bruce Walker would have to come into contention too Rep centre Cracker [ john ] Mac Donald Ray Brown , Paul Mc Cabe [ internationals ]
