They are the things we do mate lol. well we have to lol

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times (though not really). I started watching Manly League in my teens about 1964-5. The team makeup was something like
Batty (an early favourite)
Nick Yakich
Tennant
Stanton
Fred Yakich (loved watching Fred. Not as fast as Mick, his brother, but a tough little customer.)
Pickup
Whiley
Billy Bradstreet (another early favourite)
Pogo Morgan
Ken Day
Mick Veivers
Jones
Herman Hamilton

reserves

Antunac
Cameron
Knox
Simmons

Good side on the rise. I sat with my father and brother on the Hill adjacent to the northern 20 metre ( 25 yard) line. We were there in teeming rain or sunshine close to the action. They were times when the game was more park football, with occasional travels parking kilometres away to walk to the Sydney Cricket Ground, mainly against that machine like St George side.

The game was fun in those days and a great way to spend a weekend afternoon. Not sure it has the same fun these days.

Beaver & Toovey have to be the top 2 local juniors for sure.

The Stewart bros came from Wollongong Wests so even though they debuted at Manly they can't be considered local juniors, surely?

Randall had them both covered and easily in my humble opinion.

yeah I agree. I was a big Bob Batty fan myself and I remember grass was freely smoked at school as well lol. I remember getting into the ground for 10 cents and a can of coke was 5 cents, showing my age now lol. Gee your post brings back memories mate

Speaking of Bob Batty , does his Road Runner nickname count as a Manly animal reference or related name

Not sure how Batty inherited The Road Runner appellation, but I assume he reminded many of that generation of the cartoon character continuously pursued by the redoubtable Wile E. Coyote, beep beep. Looked a little like him and he was quite quick and evasive.

Batty should've been at fullback not porcelain man. Best ever Menzies closely followed by Randall , Toovey , Krilich

Phil Blake was the most electric junior for me, if he was playing in today’s game with that space he be scoring points at will.

I never seen Fred Jones play, the stories i been told about him off the field he would have been a tough Hombre to play against.

One of the stories was he was escorted around the league’s club with a bouncer due to the havoc he would cause. 😂😂

Phill Blake was The Greatest Showman as he had all the speed and all the tricks that took him all the way to the try line

Napper was no Manly Junior
Napper is a Manly Legend
Trump is a ruthless Winner and so was our ruthless Arko
What both those ruthless Winners had in common was that they were both hated
The Ruthless Arko was hated for raiding the heart of other clubs which at the time was against the spirit of the game and was hated for Manlys success

Winners ....
No one likes them but they dont Care

Trump is only a winner because he lived off Daddy's money, made a mess of it bankrupted 5 times, doesn't pay his bills, morally corrupt, has questionable loyalty to his country and has sociopathic elements. Arthurson was ruthless but honorable and unlike Trump, a self made man and very loyal to the players and the club. Worlds apart

My mistake about Napper. I forgot this is a Manly juniors section. You're quite right. My favourite was Randall, who I actually knew briefly in primary school.

There was nothing honorable at the time for raiding the heart and soul of clubs
It was Al Capone stuff and it was against the spirit of the game
But Arko was determined to make Manly Great and to win premierships and only cared about the Manly spirit and this is Why I Love him most :h:

Many losers inherit honey and they go bankrupt for life
but only the Winners bounce back and build another fortune
Only Winner bounce back become Great Leaders and Trump did not need his Daddy to hold his hand and become President of the most powerful Nation in the world

Terry Randall was the epitome of Resilience and the Steel of Manlys premiership winning packs
For a Battle scarred 4 time Premiership winning warrior he is still a very good looking bloke . I had the great honor of meeting him a couple times at Manly Functions and he is a mans man and a good guy .
What was he like at school ?

Cliffy wasn’t a Manly junior but the best to wear the colours for me, pure footballer with the football smarts to match it.

People talk of how good Joey was and no doubt he was, the things Cliffy could do with the ball not many have or can, I don’t know how they do the immortal acceptance judgement, for me Cliffy should be one purely on his ability to memorise defensive teams.
