Best and worst recruitment decisions

Without doubt Dollarevens is the worse signing by far, closely followed by Myles. And as someone reminded me in another thread, Myles came as a deal to appease DollarEvans. I mean, what a fuk up.

Best: plenty that have been great, but as others have mentioned BK And the great J Lyon for me.

DollarEvans ......lol, one of your funniest.

ALot of people may disagree, the Decision to let Gutherson go was imo one of the biggest howlers.. Should of kept him instead of signing Walker. Guy can cover 5/8 , centres and Fullback , and can kick goals. I know where he would be playing right now and we wouldn't be missing a beat..

A bit left field but I’m going to say, Scott Penn for

1. Not agreeing to the $50k contract extension Des was after, in early 2011 when he and the club, were in the middle of a potentially multi premiership run.
2. Releasing Foran when he could have re-signed in early 2014.
3. Signing DCE to that massive 8 year $10M contract that has been hindering our recruitment ever since

Worst recruitment decision ??? There's alot of them! Letting AFB go, signing chez for life.. the massive trbojevic brother contracts, letting gutho go, not letting matai get his massive payday at the warriors after all he had done for the club, extensions of parker and taufua etc.
Best recruitment decision? Probably BK and Killer
Agree except the Gutherson decision.

Best

Ridge . From union, small frame but instantly gave the team steel with his attitude

I also wrapped with other posters throwing up matai and shane Rodney. Good buys
Letting go of T Rex - phew
Getting rid of dank just in the nick of time

Worst
Letting tooves go and part of our soul.

Losing gifty in the manner we did which in turn lost our culture and the opportunity for succession planning
Bozo fulton as footy figure to rebuild after it went to **** and responsible for a lot of our current mess
Barrett. Not a reflection on his coaching at all. Just poor timing for the club, team, etc.
deveraux and ropati, hight profile names - zero retun

We just couldn't get Gutho onto the field., Every time he tied his shoe laces at Brookie he did a ligament. He's become unbreakable at Parra and has had a chance to show his skills. We only had hints of how good he was going to be.

I might point out that we had to sell Gutho to stay under the salary cap and the eels signed him when they were already a million over the cap. But that's just the way the NRL works.

Just a shut out to the recruitment of Graham Eadie. His contribution to the teams that dominated in the seventies can't be underestimated. In an era of fatigue he was agile and strong for 80 minutes.

Lyon not in the best list???

Let me try to break this down.

Letting AFB go - he wanted out and was playing like it last year. No motivation, no desire. How do you as a club fix that? You can't.

signing chez for life - directly caused by Foz and his Games in the contract debacle. Dce was gone so obviously had to dangle a huge carrot to stay... yes poor decision but unavoidable in a way.

the massive trbojevic brother contracts - see ya Manly. Those boys could have walked out the door for more money at any point. There would have been a world war had they been allowed to walk.

letting gutho go - 2 knees gone in 2 years. Still had most of the golden era players on contract. Yes sure would have loved if he had stayed in retrospect but at the time looked an OK decision.

not letting matai get his massive payday at the warriors after all he had done for the club. Agree pretty poor.

extensions of parker and taufua etc - tafua was good for a number of years. Injuries have caught up with him.

Parker. Yep I've got nothing. Sorry.

Bad decisions are only bad decisions when seen in retrospect with current knowledge.

I should have bought that funking bitcoin back in 2011 when I had a chance. What a cock I am.....

There is one clear winner
Mr Plod was a disgrace

Too many goodens to list but
BK
Malcom Reilly
Frank Stanton
All contributed to early success and our heritage and cultures & made us team to be feared
