    Origin of the species

Steve Menzies goes back much further than any other player who will take part in State of Origin I when it comes to a history of playing at that level. Menzies, the 32-year-old Manly second-rower and NSW reserve, made his Origin debut in 1995 - the year the Super League war erupted. Queensland pair Darren Lockyer and Steve Price are next best in the Origin longevity stakes, each going back to 1998.
