Baird is a Manly fan because he is the member for Manly. He does live locally and has been to a game or two. He supported another team in his youth and has come on board since becoming a local pollie. Similar to Abbott who lists the Sea Eagles as being of interest due to his location.

We need to run a concerted campaign based on equity and fairness to embarrass the Governments of all levels that this team and area deserve facilities equal to other parts of the city and state. What has gone on in the past from the club, the council and the elected representatives is a joke.

He's a politician, why do you think he was on that program? He was probably just trying to win some cheap popularity points by saying what he assumed most fans would want to hear, ie 'don't like Manly'. Wouldn't read too much into it.
