We survived for 80 years without it, and could survive again.

Yep there'd be some dud calls BUT it's likely to go both ways and probably more evenly.

And yes Refs would possibly get a bit " gun shy" and not award some that were in fact try's but again this goes both ways.

And suddenly , most ( but not all) the controversy is gone!

And yes I know , you'll still see some slow motion on social media but at least the coaches won't be involved.

I thought the two refs were going to be a good addition to the game.

What I didn't know was that the nrl was going to implement a 1 boss ref and 1 minor ref. I think this was a bad way to go. We hear the minor ref calling out things and the main ref deciding to ignore it.

In "ice" hockey (it's just hockey.... you guys play field hockey 😛) there are 4 officials and each has a whistle. I think it's the same in the nfl...all the officials have a penalty flag they can throw.

Under the current way of doing things.... it's not working. I almost want to go back to one ref....but I'd like both refs to be on equal footing even though I know the players will complain about being confused about playing under two different ref's styles. Well they can just grow up! lol


edit: Oops, as per the thread title; I'd would like to keep slow motion replays but the bunker has proven far too often that they can't interpret the images correctly (non corruptly?) - so maybe the slow mo should go; unless that means the vidiots take 5 times as long looking at normal speed replays to try and get it right.


I wonder what percentage of the storm's / parra's tries went to the bunker compared with tries scored against them.

Much better, the game is too robotic with the bunker and slow motion replays. You can tell if someones put the ball down from normal motion anyways, stopping it at every frame cause unnecessary doubt, every put down can look dubious in slow motion. We need a gps in the ball or a system where we can see forward passes and a line to show offside players. It can't be that hard!

As I say it largely worked for 80 years without this and I feel it can again!

You are 100% correct Mark, and I know if you trawl though posts of years gone by you'll find exactly the same sentiments expressed.
We had a great sport - even before TV coverage for you young-uns - and crowds flocked to matches. We didn't have to manufacture teams from Townsville, Brisbane, Auckland, Melbourne or Canberra to have a fantastic competition.
Video, and over-officiating, has killed rugby league. RIP.
In its place has been the rise of AFL in Sydney. One reason is that AFL doesn't over-analyse incidents. The only time they use a vidiot is to check if the football passed through the goalposts before being touched.
Like RL used to be, if/when the ref makes a mistake the action moves on so quickly that there is very little time for fans or players to be incensed, which is the exact opposite of the biased, ham-fisted Vidiot approach of the NRL.

Good point but it won't happen. There idea would be that" we're moving forward not backwards".
