There was an article in SMH today that showed the average salary across the 16 NRL clubs by player position. This was taken from an offical NRL document collated by the Salary Cap auditing squad. Is a bit of an interesting read to see where clubs see that the best bang for salary cap buck is.

I'm a little surprised to see that hookers on average are second lowest paid compared to wingers. You'd think a key spine position like that might command a bit more coin ?? I know that I'd pay good $$ to have someone like Grant, Cook or even Api back here in the 9. By the same token props are seemingly well compensated for what is a pretty basic skill set these days. Wingers don't earn that much on average, but a good winger like To'o, Tupou or Marzhew is like an extra forward in terms of workrate and metres gained - probably worth the extra coin. I think minimum wage for top 26 players in squad is $100K and players 26-30 in squad minimum wage is $80K

On the same topic here is an article or two posted on the NRL website that gives some explanation of the current salary cap structure

It seems very strange indeed that the player in every team who touches the ball the most and does the most tackling isn't paid more
