The on field NRL referees seem to have lacked confidence & don't want the responsibility of making the big calls since the introduction of the Video Referee.

Do you agree?

Eg: Two meter forward pass seen by 99% of viewers, including drunks sitting in the corner of every pub with a small screen TV on the other side of the room & two on field Ref's plus two linesmen are gutless to call.
or
A definite obstruction/shepard seen by the same guys in the pub & 99% of viewers & the referees & touch judges let it go because there is no try scored in that tackle but they score on the next play.

They are reffing to a directive from Harrigan and the nrl.
So they were directed to never award a obstruction/shepard unless a try was scored? Even then they go up to the video ref.

In other words Harrigan & the NRL don't want the on field ref's to make decision? Why do you need two ref's just to says let's go up stairs to the video ref? It only takes one.

Recently I watched the 1978 GF draw between Manly v Cronulla & the Hollywood (ref) was up in there faces for almost every play & got almost every decision correct.

Yes. The ref called 6 to go once Jamie got the ball after the foran "knock on" last night. So in his opinion on the spot kieran didn't touch it.

Video ref cannot rule on forward passes. That doesn't excuse the complete incompetence of the 4 on field officials that missed it.The whole crowd went up as one when the ball was thrown, yet they missed it ??

I also agree on the obstruction play. It's a ridiculous situation when the only time you get an obstruction call is if it directly leads to a try.We got dudded on as many calls last night, but that doesn't suit the media agenda.

The standard of refereeing has deteriorated even further under Bills watch. It's been nothing short of pathetic at times this year.

The refs were weak and should have taken charge of the game and they should not have allowed Thurston to continually question them. They should have been stronger and told Thurston to shut up or face being penalised.

Spot on. It's these rediculous two meter forward passes which four on field officials should see & not the touch & go one's.

The obstruction is a joke. Bill Harrigan always uses the excuse of the decision was made by the interpretation of the ref.

The evidence on the last try:
1. Foran said he didn't touch the ball.
2. The referee called six to go, so he thought Foran didn't touch it.
3. The video ref called try, so he thought Foran didn't touch it.

But Gus Gould and the Ch9 commentators have an irrational fit in their armchairs, so now the referees bosses come out and say the referees got it wrong? Seriously? While the rules say BOD must favour the attacking team?

No wonder referees have zero confidence when the referee bosses undermine them at every turn.

Why are you trying to apply logic to the issue, Rex? Don't you realise this is about goodies and baddies? Bit like wrestlemania actually.
