Api is a 9

Api is a number 9 by virtue of his size.Too small for about every where else really but ,he is a pretty good player, skilful, tough, has a dig, very scheming type but for a nrl number 9, he has waaaay to many mistakes in his game.As mentioned his passing game often takes the steam out of our attack.

Cherry also has this in his game so we dont have room for 2 of these types in the team. We need to attack with purpose. at times with a plan to build pressure and he is very ad lib.We cant have half the spine leaving the team confused most of the time

I expect green may have troubles getting the ball early when he needs it.

Api often hogs it when a more relaxed, experienced, whatever you want to call it knows when to give it to the players that should get the ball. and while he is tough and at times bruising he is a bit of a liability in the middle of the ruck, especially on the goal line

There is a lot to like about api he has a smart short kicking game, he can make things happen but while rebuilding if its api in the number 9 we will struggle with cohesion.

He can look good with what he does and suits the new version of league where attack and tries are king, as he contributes to both teams scoring points, but to the hard nosed footy fans that know what it takes to win games, especially the tight games, he will come up short on the basics
I am obviously a big fan of Api and I think he is a good footballer but of all the criticism put forward on this forum, your post is easily the most rational and mature appraisal of his weaknesses.

Instead of assassinating him completely, you've correctly pointed out his strengths and shortcomings. I agree with most of what you have said but I do think most players that are not in the elite class have areas to work on and Api is no different. I do also think that if he can improve (he is relatively inexperienced in terms of games played) he will be a competent hooker and maybe even a very good one.

If he fails to improve his weaknesses then lets all talk about the possibility of a replacement. It just seems that the same people that were calling for Parcell to be given more of a go, are the ones saying that Api should be kept well away from the 9 position. I believe Api is our best shot at this point in time and we should get behind him and focus on the positives in his game rather than pull stumps before a ball has been bowled in 2017.

And meanwhile in the cricket....

Ian Chappell: Oh all right, well, Allan Border has elected to run with the wind towards the Paddington end, so that means, Pakistan will have the kick off. Good luck fellas.

Richie Benaud: Pakistan are going to kick off? What F***ing game are we playing here? Has everyone gone completely mad - who's batting for heavens sake!?

Hang on. Who's on First.

The problem is mate you love the dude at 9'for some reason. Everyone here knows he is a bloody good footballer and rips in every time he plays. And no one has assassinated him completely. Pretty much everyone has acknowledged what he brings to the team before being constructively critical about their concerns with him being considered our first choice dummy half.

The better judges see how much he destabilises any attacking movement from dummy half or pivot. He hasn't got a fluent bone in his body.

We all saw what happened after round two when Parcel was given the 9. Things flowed and even walker looked okay as a six.

Api, as I have said numerous times, would be in my 17 every week, were I picking the side. He's not yet proved himself a first grade starting hooker.

Call me arrogant or what ever you want mate but face the facts - better judges than you have put forward more compelling cases as to why the bloke is a worry if he's our starting 9.

Night.

Do these better judges include Bob Fulton and Trent Barrett?

Game set match.

Because they are infallible? Not having a go btw, I just don't think it is a fait accompli because Bozo and Barrett let Parcel go. Api may not even be our 9 by the end of the year if Hastings goes well.

not at all...I was just pointing out how profoundly skewed the logic was getting in terms of this argument. Apparently better judges than me think that Api is hopeless and Parcell is a star but a premiership winning coach/player and our head-coach let the star go and kept the hopeless crap?!

You have correctly insinuated that it's a very subjective argument and I agree with you...Bozo and Baz could indeed be wrong but the arrogant proposal that there are better judges than me on our forum simply because I don't agree with someone else's opinion (when an immortal and our head coach do) is not going to wash.

Does Trump think Api is a 9?
Trump sounds pretty positive...
"With Api at 9 we're going to win so much -- win after win after win -- that you're going to be begging me: 'Please, Mr. President, let us lose once or twice, drop Api, we can't stand it any more.' And I'm going to say: 'No way. We're going to keep winning. We're never going to lose. We're never, ever going to lose."

Hey, dont knock the President Elect. He's going to make Australia strong again (were we ever strong?). He's also going to get rid of this climate change nonsense, build a wall to stop those nasty Mexicans soiling America's fine soil and have Mexico pay for it, and start making nuke bombs again. Yep He is one to have faith that his word is from the mountain top crafted in stone.

It should picked on the basis of effort at pre season training and form during trial games. Completion amongst players is healthy. My tip is Hastings will own number 9 and API will be our utility on the bench. That's my hunch and opinion. I think API is a good player but young Hastings has the X factor
