All jokes aside, if the NRL are trying to save face about the Manly cap scandal, now is the best time.

The country cares more about the Aust cricket team than the NRL cap scandal, so the media are too busy tearing steve smith and co a new one.

On that issue, its so dumb. Camera's everywhere, as if they were not going to get caught.

Its disappointing to see Aust resort to such a low tactic. We have always been held in high regard, so it poor to scoop to a level of pakistan or india.

In the end, like all sports, Smith & Warner are too good of players to suspend long term, so they wont. We will all move on after the 1st test next summer, and we wont care. Also, Aust are too powerful of a cricketing nation for their to be major ramifications. Basically Aust, Eng and India can do what they like, they are the powerbrokers of the ICC.

Yeh I did like how he blamed the leadership group. You’d be dirty if you were suspected of being in that leadership group and had nothing to do with it. Shows a lack of true leadership, no matter who hatched the scheme is smith knew about it and allowed it to happen then he has to take the blame 100%, you can’t captain by committee so the buck stops with him.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth in the media is unbelievable. The Courier Mail has devoted 11 pages to this, I can't think of anything apart from the Broncos winning a GF that would get so much coverage. Hope war isn't declared today, the announcement would probably make page 15.

Someone rang up BIg Sports Breakfast this morning and said if you listen to his press conference, the way he worded it made him think he wasn't behind it.

What I heard is smith admitting he was party to the discussions about ball tampering. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as he is only young and doesn’t have a lot of experienced players around him for support outside of Warner and Lyon - neither of whom do I consider captaincy material. He has to take the fall for this and learn from it, it’s a tough gig being a leader and this will be a massive lesson for him. Has definitely left a stain on his record, how he comes back from here will be interesting.
