Annesley's weakly "Why this happened" report - 2024 edition.

The only seemingly reasonable ref, Adam Gee, has been dropped this week. Apparently Annusly came out and said it wasn't because of a particular howler and it was based purely on form?! Even though we lost badly on Sunday, it wasn't due to the ref...it makes no sense. I guess because he's decent and we can't have that!
Because Gee refused to pull up the game every nano second for a nano incident. He dared to let the game flow too much.

As much as I hated the outcome of that game I have to acknowledge Gee did a pretty good job of officiating amidst this cesspit of 2024 officiating. The NRL are so lost up their own a$$es.

Will be interesting to see what happens this weekend. Round 27 was the lowest total of fines and suspensions emanating from on field reports since the 23. You may recall there was also a significant number of players sent to the bin starting in round 24. The excuse at that time was, the lead in to the semi finals more intensity etc etc. Obviously the intensity was not there for most games in round 27 therefore the counts are down. Unsurprisingly the bad transgressions were caused by players from teams out of the race and 3 suspensions were handed to those players.

Interesting observation above about Gee though, he stuck to his seasons averages quite well in this game. He blew 12 penalties, 4 Ruck infringements and 1 inside 10. He failed to hit his target I mean average of 2 reports and 1 sin bin per game. There in lies his form slump and relegation.

PS. He is #1 (excluding Chris Sutton who only did 2 games) in penalty calls per game at 12.04 and he has also sent the most players to the bin.
