I think the bulldogs might have this one in the bag seeing as penrith are resting 16 players, apparently.
You reckon?

Be funny if the Panthers reserve graders accidentally do a few hip drops and direct and forceful contacts to the head!! Hey accidents to do happen, wink wink!

I’m with bulldog Ritchie on this one - not a good look for the game when the rules allow a team to take the piss like panthers are. Hope Penrith get knocked out in week one of the finals.

The only argument I have to the situation is if Manly were in the same position(yes,I know it’s a stretch in the current climate)would us fans be happy they’re being rested?Other than that,I don’t think it’s a good look for the game

And if they win 5 straight premierships, it will be a master call.
If my team had won 4 in a row, they could do whatever they want.
Not a good look for the game, really!!...AFL have a whole week off before the finals with no games. NRL still get their TV money and thats all they are worried about. Betting agencies still take bets and thats all they are worried about. Go Panthers, I hope teh young guns smash the Doggies.
Would show Seibold what is achievable, if you try and give others a go.

I get that everyone wants to win the comp - but they've just won the last 4 already!!

Something I actually agree with Brookie, playing your entire reserve grade side is bonkers from the point of view of everyone except Penrith.

I saw NRL 360 last night try desperately to not even mention it (obviously they're not supposed to harm their employer Fox by pointing out their big blockbuster tv game is now a joke)

(They also did their best to minimise the Smith/radley scandal, scandals on the eve of finals aren't what they want fox viewers to be thinking about just now, especially ones involving Braith's popular old clubs)

The other thought ... if Manly was in the same position do you think the NRL would green-light this???!!! I think not

I think, get over it, I love seeing a club so invested in winning they will do what they can to win, best of luck, I hope the young fellas roll the doggies and the the firsts come back fresh and become the first side to win the comp from outside the 4.

I’m not paranoid like a few on ST’s so I I disagree. If the NRL are bias or has issues with certain clubs, don’t you think they’d stop Penrith from doing this? They’ve won 4 comps in a row,so the NRL would be desperate for someone else to win to prove that 1)their salary cap works and 2) other more popular clubs get closer to winning one

You hear the word 'integrity' bandied around rugby league yet the NRL rules allow teams to deliberately sabotage their chances of competing to the best of their ability. The worst aspect of it is the help/hinderence it gives to other teams trying to qualify for a finals berth. Whilst in the Penrith-Dogs match there are no real ramifications, except for dudding RL fans of what should have been an epic contest. Yet in the other match there are.
There are still three clubs in contention for the final spot in the top eight, yet one of them, Easts, gets a leg-up by Melbourne deliberately denuding its best 17.
The NRL can't let this continue. In future years it will cause a controversy much more volatile than this season.

Not saying it’s not a good move by the panthers, just that the NRL shouldn’t be allowing teams to take the piss. Not sure what the AFL example has to do with it.

It’s not a knock on the panthers, they can do what they want within the rules. It’s a knock on the NRL for allowing it.

In view of the big bucks being paid by broadcasters I would have expected that the clubs would be under a contractual obligation to the NRL to field their best possible team bar injuries week in and week out.

Maybe they are? But very difficult to enforce. A player is tired and needs a rest, that's just good player management?
But the whole team needs a rest?? That is having a lend.
Maybe the NRL could have a rule that for the final 2 rounds if more than 3 are rested they must produce a doctor certificate. If more than 4 then also get an independent doctor as well
Although ... everyone knows how hard doctor certificates are to come by, and most players really would have niggles at least by round 25!

It's one of those too-hard-basket cases such as players feigning injury/tiredness to avoid all-star games and even rep games.
