All NRL Games [Round 19, 2024]

Interesting call.

I'm OK with it though. Without the checked run he probably scores no problem.

Still, he did get to the ball in more than enough time anyway..... :wondering:
If that's the benchmark for a Penalty Try then it should stand to reason that a lot of cynical offside plays when defending your line should be too.
How many times do we see a player race off the goal line way early and shut down a simple two on one because they were offside and knew it.
If they're not that far offside "in all probability" it's a simple catch, pass, try.
They don't call it though.

The one last night was minimal contact and he had ample time to take the ball and put in down yet he dropped it cold.
If the ball was on the ground and all he had to do was dive on it then l'd understand but those grabs/bumps happen multiple times a game yet aren't deemed penalty worthy.

The refs seem to have in their head Sin Bin or Penalty Try or nothing to see here.
In my opinion the bump wasn't significant enough to award the try.
Why not just award a Penalty?

Frankly, when played in real time I thought it should have been play on. Fuller's reaction was simply instinct, throwing out an arm but quickly retracting it.
Penalty tries used to be a rarity, Now they are being awarded far too easily. It's yet another change in the interpretation of the rules that has changed the integrity of RL for the worse.

"Probably scores" doesn't (or never use to) constitute a penalty try. They have to be 100% that he would of scored
Yep,it's been changed - the rule as it is now
"the Referee may award a penalty try if, in their opinion, a try would have been scored but for the unfair play of the defending team".

So while some rules are being made black and white this one is still somewhat arbitrary.

I'm of the opinion that yes he was slightly impeded but not enough to award the try.
He wasn't flattened, he was hardly knocked off stride, he got two hands to it and should have scored.
He would take a bouncing ball like that 95 times out of 100, he got lucky.
Look at Townsend last week, dropped it cold with the line open, it does happen.

A small margin for error is synonymous with ‘precision’ and ‘accuracy’ as understood in the original context of sample sizes in research, hence its usage in my context. I’m not referring to the ‘confidence’ one has in an outcome, rather the level of precision required to get the intended result.
Fair enough. Go Manly !

I'll give Souths fullback Jye Gray his dues. He's only a small bugger (5'7" and 78kg ... a poofteenth bigger than Tooves), but like Tooves, he's got guts.
he is not even 5'7" he is 5'5", shortest player in the nrl comp this year but has some strength being able to stop jack Bostock that close to the try line

The bs of the nrl is that wouldn't even be a penalty against other teams. Yet it's a bin for the Tigers.

You could argue a penalty alone would have been harsh.

Anusley will come out Monday and explain why Gee was 100% correct and the rest of world needs to go to Gibb & Beemon for an eye check up
