Good luck to all of us in Alfreds path - I'm as ready as I can be. As far as flooding, I'm lucky I live on a hill but I'm very open to wind being built on the side of a fairly steep exposed hill, and watching the trees getting whipped around I'm expecting the power will go out again soon - take care all

I have family in the Tweed Heads area and they've done 'all they can do' so hopefully they stay safe and the winds 'aren't as bad as predicted' which happens a fair bit.

I've noticed a lot of almost full sandbags on various reports - that's not how they should be but it's a bit late now.

Stay safe ya yobbos (especially if you've joined the tipping comp!!)

Getting closer, slowly.
Going to do a bit more preparation today around the house.
Where do you live manlyfan ?
I'm at Coorparoo, in a bigish townhouse, we have small tree's at the back where a few possums live. We have set up some empty boxes on the back verandah for them. We also feed a lot of butcher birds, no doubt they'll be wanting some cover as well. Bit of a Noahs Ark thing going on here...lol. looking like Friday arvo to early Sat morn it'll hit. Keep safe everyone.

I'm a ways out of Toowoomba but I heard all the schools there are closed!
Not making light of the situation of my coastal friends, but jeez out here they certainly can overreact.
(I'm a born and bred Nth Qlder so maybe I'm just being blaise or whatever that word is)

Redland Bay for me , currently listed for a direct hit ( although it’s very likely to move either further north or further south).

We live in a relatively new estate ( 9 years old ) which has excellent drainage.

I’m almost at the bottom of a slight hill , but there’s a massive drain right in front of me ( both sides of the road ) and even in the heaviest rain we’ve seen in those 9 years it’s never been an issue.

And our small back yard has excellent drainage , there are 4 largish drains at the back and another two at the front , again we’ve never had an issue BUT this is a very different beast.

Everything that was outside , is now inside.

No caravan that was sold and picked up on Tuesday , but we do have the caravan “ port “ with a shade sail structure that’s rated to 125kph so if it stays a 2 or goes back to a 1 we should be okay.

Fingers crossed I’ll have power , or at least internet of some description to watch Saturdays game.

It’s currently due to cross at some point late Friday or Saturday morning.

The reason this is such a “ thing “ isn’t the strength of it , it’s the fact that it’s hitting the largest population centre of any cyclone in Australian history.

North Queensland & WA cop these every year but the biggest potential population centre one could hit would be Townsville , with about 200,000 people.

This is hitting South East Queensland with a population of up to 3 MILLION , & it’s almost guaranteed to hit between the Sunny & Gold Coast , affecting virtually every single person living in SEQ.

We are as prepared as we can be, fingers crossed we don’t get any damage.

We’ve got a lot of big trees, but none that would reach the house (hopefully). Down the backs the worry. Plenty of big trees close to the shed.
Tbh I’m more worried about the wildlife, especially the ones that hangout at our place. Butcher birds, Magies (with a newbie), The Kookaburras (they too have got a young-in). I had a visit from Butler the border collie from up the road this morning. I feed him cat biscuits, loves them. Two wood ducks down in the pond. Mrs Duck has a buggered leg and hobbles around, while Mr Duck stands protecting her. I’m going to try and leave the garage door open for as long as I can, so they have somewhere to shelter and eat/drink.
