AFB extends contract

A new enforcer has emerged at Manly and he’s only 21.

Powerhouse rookie Addin Fonua-Blake has been a standout performer over the pre-season.

Having recently extended his contract a further year, the Kiwi product has been turning heads at training.

According to new recruit Blake Green, Fonua-Blake is primed for a breakout 2017.

“He’s going to be a big part of our team moving forward,” Green told foxsports.com.au.

“He’s a big kid, very hard to handle and physical. As a young player not everyone can flick the switch and play first grade at 20.”

Since making his NRL debut in round seven, Fonua-Blake became a mainstay in the team, finishing the year with 14 games to his name.

Chosen in the New Zealand train-on squad for the recent Four Nations tournament, the forward is clearly doing something right and Green expects he’ll only get better thanks to his work ethic.

“I’ve been really impressed with him,” Green said.

“His work ethic is great. He works really hard, he’s in early in the morning doing extras and getting himself in shape.”

I really think this kid is going to be a star. I have said that the first thing he needs to work on is his fitness and leg speed. Given what I have heard from him and others in the media - that seems to be exactly what he is doing.

He will be one powerful runner with a cheeky offload in him. I think we will see Tom hanging off his hip a bit this year.

Always seen him as a future star, I get surprised when other side's fans say otherwise, good to know he's on the right track, hope he keeps on it could be terrific alongside hard hitters in lussick, Taupau and hopefully Siro, Meehan and Hoppa in the near future
