AFB and Kapow - The Key to Victory

Marty and AFB are a sensational front row pair and I wish we could sign them up for life! Lane and Thompson have been mighty in the second row and well Jake he's the best lock int he game for me. We will miss Koroisau's defence and speed close to the ruck. I agree that our pack needs to dominate the Raider's pack for us to win and we need both our front row forwards on fire to win.

AFB has a high percentage of PCM - he may not but in the top for overall post contact metres , but his ratio of all run metres ; post contact metres is extremely high each week ( vs Storm 154:71) about 46%.
Big Marty was 34%. Which is still very good and Marty has lots more off loads.
AFB has a great impact on our game.

Check the date - those stats are for last year.

Now that he is starting he isn't making as much, would still be good but not as good.
Check my original post. I completely agree with you, however. He'd be brutal off the bench.

As the title suggests these two were the key to victory last night - They should have dominated a Cowboys pack missing 4 of their starting forwards, yet they never got in the game. Being at the ground it was one of the poorest games I have seen from Addin. He was extremely lazy getting back into line, along with Marty, there were a number of times I saw Joel Thompson screaming at them to get back into the line.

These two were the most disappointing players from my perspective last night, in what was a hugely uninspiring performance.

Marty Kapow is 1 of the NRL's most powerful ball carriers - from what I see atm, he is not playing to his strength - rushing 100kph into the defensive live and battering them, then thinking offload, if its on....in fact, seems to be slowing down at the line, almost turning in awkward situations and simply pushing a pass out the back.
Much prefer he just winds up and skittles a few and wins a quick play ball, of course if arms are free 2nd phase play is Gold, but this just tossing it out the back hoping a player picks a loose ball up on the bounce is not a great advantage.
AFB still makes the odd Big carry, but his play balls need to speed up....a bit lethargic getting up and energy needs a spike.
In fairness, the entire team looks lacklustre and these 2 big boppers need to simply play hard, direct ugly footy and hurt the opposition - forget playing pretty, theres blokes who can play off the back of them owning that ruck again....it does start here.

The coach wants them to play that hope and prayer second phase stuff . They train 24/7 , video sessions etc. He does it because he is instructed to and Barrett has no other approach that even looks like a strategy. The red zone stuff is cringeworthy.

Any fool can see we play best when we play direct thinking run first , pass later.

Put it this way if Tapau is doing this off his own bat against coaches instructions he should have been dropped weeks ago for just that despite his massive talent.

There is no way he could play 13 weeks like that unless it is instructed. Simple as that .

Marty certainly didn't have a good game last night, but I was most disappointed with Addin. He was lazy in every facet of his game.

Kapow was strolling back as Chez ran across to try and stop Winterstein in the SE corner. No forwards on our RHS to help our backs 😕

Our forwards have a habit of making a tackle then walking back into the defensive line instead of sprinting back :banghead:

I don't get Marty's last 2 games where he has reverted to just dumping the ball without looking :tmi:

I hope that isn't true However where there is smoke there is usually fire and this troy just won't go away

If we let tapau go whole retaining plodders and injury plagued plodders like Sironen Winterstein and the Wright brothers then penn Barrett and Peters all need to go The saudis cannot be any worse than the Penns at running a club

Taupau popular

Marty Taupau being linked to several clubs and, as one of the most devastating players in the game, we can understand why. I’ve been told Manly are happy for him to explore his options. That’s hard to believe.
