Given we are heading towards seasons end the player market is getting its typical freak on.

You have Queen gutho wanting 1 mill ( or perhaps not) depending on the source.

Ash Taylor coming off a million a season being talked about as a 200k player.

And all the other chatter.

Hypothetically if Tommy was to have a falling out with say everybody at the club due to his 41 phones being chucked into the Harbour off the spit bridge and demanded a move what would he be worth on his current form?

Dce is the highest paid player in the game and gets a pasting for it so if it but I'm feeling Tommy wouldn't get the same grief or would he?

Place your bets on the true 2021 value of Mr Tommy Turbo?

Approx 1.2 million a season
Any more would crucify the teams roster under the cap
I have always been of the opinion it's best not to just grab the highest bid and -
Play where you enjoy your footy
Play where there's potential success
Stay where your best associated to help life after footy
In reality it's what a team is prepared to pay

Turbo, cleary, tadesco, munster regulary play to the million dollar pricetag and nobody questions them unless they are not playing. There pricetag is never really questioned

While skill is important all of these players take responsability for the result , make things happen and get clobbered every week pushing the opportunity to with ball in hand to create

The next level down generally ball play too early and go about structures and plays regardless of how defence reacts.

When keary plays teddy does less of this but both players make it happen and start the team off going forward. Rarely is there talk that they didnt play well because of others. The way cleary got the riff back last week after souffs bolted out of the gate is what you buy

Cody walker, gutho , dce all need others to start before there contributions are of any real quality . They are really good when the opposition is gassed and the team is romping it in but have very little in the box of tricks that can turn the game if being dominated and while they offer leadership its not a follow me style. They all roam instead of run at defenders

The problem arises when players dont play to there potential on a weekly basis

If tommy and dce swapped contracts we would be closer to true value especially considering how much of a number 7 role tommy plays

Gutho isnt a million dollar player in fact his pay rate is about right even though he tries ti get his hands on the ball when the game is on the line where some others are still backing up

If turbo had the whole season out injured the heat would be right on dce atm. Tommy saved him from the same scrutiny that ash taylor gets

His impact and try assist numbers when tom sits it out is not good

1 mill from the cap at most. The guys that deserve that money can make alot more as well with 3rd party and other stuff as well.
Anymore is pushing the boundary to actually have a good team that can make grand finals.

The top teams wouldn't pay more than $1,000,0000
Those clubs know you also need a team of above-average players and to pay them fairly so they stick around.

Clubs like the Tigers and Dogs might pay $1,400,000 but don't spend the money wisely and end up with a team of overpaid journeymen.
Tom at the dogs this year would just be another fullback just doing his job without a chance of being the Dally M player of the year. He would be a great player still but you still need a team around you to allow you to do your magic.

To borrow a Bozoism: Perspective time:
Some people are forgetting that DCE plays virtually every match every season. Rarely does he miss any through injury or rest. (I must also put Guttho in this same category. Apparently he hasn't missed a match in three seasons). So, when making judgements about a player's worth you should take this into consideration.
Realistically, the most highly paid player in the NRL is David Fifita. He's on a reported $1m a season, comes into a match at the 30 minute mark, and doesn't get too involved.

When DCE got his Massive payday I thought "This is ridiculous, not worth THAT much pay"...
In fact, I kind of still have these thoughts, but have Massive respect for what DCE brings and often does not get the credit he deserves.
Then....I see Hunt, Moses, Ash Taylor types on similar money and think - we didn't go too bad after all....

Well said feathered friend . I also see exactly what you see from our great DCE

You can add Valentine Holmes to that list. He is proving very poor value for his salary.

Good point @maxta . We also need to factor the contribution made by contracted players off the field as well and DCE is a exceptional role model .

Tommy would be worth 1.5 M a season including all the brown paper bags being dropped off to his front door every day of the week and hand picked call girls to escort him to his home at the end of every game
