Like many I was getting carried away with the hype of last Sunday's win against the Warriors. I was suddenly thinking we were specials for the semis and that all was going to be right in the world with Manly restored to our previous dominance.

Don't get me wrong - we did well to win and the defence was improved. Kennedy and Kite added starch and several players were exceptional. We scrambled with determination.

BUT (I finally got to look at a video of the game!)

There is a long way for us to go yet. Our attack looked disjointed and uncohesive, we struggled to get metres at times and a lot of the running was one out and predictable. When Kite and Kennedy were off we were brittle and it was lucky their attack was more stereotyped than ours - they dropped the ball two or three times with the line open. Our ball handling was ordinary, our passing game very average and it was more guts than skill. Two of our tries were good luck!

It is very premature to start talking of 50 points, and buying the semi-final tickets.

There is potential there but we are far from the level exhibited by other teams over the weekend, including the Bulldogs and the Sharks. Sunday beware!!!!!! %-6 !dodge

Agreed. It's great to have a win but I think we should understand that the Warriors were far from being on top of their game, and they are probably far from being top of the table. And we won by 6.

It was great to see our blokes being physically intimidating in defence though - I'd say that forced an error or two.

I agree with mata in that our defence was partially responsible for the errors.

Our team suffered big time from 1st round syndrome. Players were trying too hard a lot of the time in attack.

As for the lucky tries comment - well each team was even there, so you cant really spend much time on that.

What keeps me happy is that a lot of the things we were poor at on the weekend we were doing well at towards the end of last year.

All teams were off their game - look at the dogs, dragons score - both teams defence was poor.

CW is here to bring us back to earth. After reading that we are a joke of an NRL side arn't we.

You can only play as well as the opposition lets you. It wasn't the open style game that the others were, so it's hard to compare imo.

It is too early to be getting carried away - it is way too early. Look at the contrast between the first week last year and the next three months.

I stand on my comments above and am happy to give comprehension lessons any time you like it, Byso !dodge !dodge

There is a difference between last years win and this years. That being said I agree with CW in the fact that the hype surrounding last years first round win is back, and it seems lesons have not been learnt. Which can mean only one thing if we lose.............

We dont know if there is a difference yet. This week will tell us a lot about our consistency and our ability to win when we're favoured.

There should be no excuses for a loss this weekend. We're not a realistic finals hope if we don't win on Sunday.

Ahh, I don't know I think this years win was alot more impressive than last years. But it doesn't mean jack if we lose the next seven (where is that Captain Obvious image when you need it).
