9th immortal to be chosen in 2018

They are really ****ing this concept

They need a Hall of Fame and the Immortals (If they already have a hall of fame it needs to be relaunched)

Hall of Fame - Launched this grand final day inducting the current 8 immortals and 12 other players. Then each year on Grand final day 2 players get inducted into the hall of fame. Hall of fame is for the greats your Irvines, Sterling, Meniga, Menzies, Fittler, Lockyer, Webke, Lyons, Kenny, Sironen, Roach and a million others could make a case

Then ONCE a decade you induct a new immortal, ONCE A DECADE...Provan next

Players need to be retired 5 years before being considered for the hall of fame and be in the hall of fame 5 years before they can be an immortal

Its not hard

The trouble is they never listen to fans as of course we have no idea.

Your plan by the way is exactly as it should be.

Loads can go into a hall of fame , Immortals are a once in a generation and once a decade is certainly enough!

What is the process of becoming an immortal??... I'm not talking about drinking from the Holy Grail and all of that. Is there a specific criteria like when saints get canonised ? Or just anyone that gives Greenkhant a hard on?

Too right . Gorgeous George would definitely be an Immortal in his own lunch time

No one else can smash down 6 Large Big Mac meals in 30 minutes on the way to training. George has being inducted the next immortal in the bag.

It was originally a Rugby League Week award , voted on by the journos at the time ( how they missed Provan is beyond me).

I think now your last sentence is closer to the truth, it’s an NRL award these days.

I was going to start a poll on this but yes I agree Norm Provan whilst he’s still alive.

Almost a shoe in though that it will be either Lockyer or Meninga.

In fact the next 4 or 5 will all be Queenslanders , and in no special order

Lockyer
Meninga
Thurston
Smith

Then you can bet one or both Slater / Cronk will be in the mix.

Can’t see too many from NSW getting a gong in the next decade or two.
I could accept Slater, but if Cronk is ever an immortal I'd be shocked. Brad Fittler is a mile ahead of Cooper Cronk in my eyes.

Upon reflection, wombat has a better record than Bob Fulton.

It’s why their should be an NRL “ Hall of Fame” with players such as Beaver almost an automatic inclusion in the year they retire.

But an Immortal ( IMO) needs to be an absolute once in a generation champion.

I think from the current and most recently retired crop possibly only Smith & Thurston fit into that ( yes even Meninga should only be a Hall of Famer IMO).

In the meantime it will be a travesty if Provan isn’t elevated before he dies.

Each State has a Hall of Fame now
https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2017/05/22/nswrl-announces-hall-of-fame-inductees/

True Blues greats Bradley Clyde, Ron Coote, Laurie Daley, Brad Fittler, Bob McCarthy and Norm Provan have tonight become the inaugural inductees to the NSWRL The Star Hall of Fame, joining automatic inductees Dally Messenger and the seven Immortals who represented NSW.
....
The seven Immortals who have represented NSW - Clive Churchill, Reg Gasnier, John Raper, Bob Fulton, Graeme Langlands, Arthur Beetson and Andrew Johns – were automatic inductions, along with pre-War (1908-45) NSW representatives, including Messenger, who fit the eligibility criteria.

The wrong has to be righted.
Norm Proven before any other player or, other than the 1st 6 or 7 players it's credibility is lost.
And maybe they could think of naming him while he is still with us than worrying about their other favourites before the little dears retire.
Then they can name Meninga before the others.
