6 vs 7

I’ve heard a lot lately on ST about our 6 and 7?

For one I don’t really think that there is a difference in today’s game. The days of a true half or 5/8 are over in my opinion. These days you have the organised half who sets plays and sets scrums on one side of the field.

The other half chooses when to run or pass, also sets plays but has less day to day running of the side.

You do have variables like in any job with cross over roles , but the basis of my talk is that labeling players as 6s or 7s seems to me to obsolete.

The other conundrum is halves that play each side of the ruck. We did this with great success when DCE tan one side and Fiz the other.

How all this plays out is beyond me, but in my opinion saying that a player is a 5/8 or a halfback is very outdated.

It’s basically either a left or right role....
The half is more the general organiser who leads the team around the park and the 5/8 has more of a licence to add spark and create on the run....complimenting each other.
The good thing about Pearce as the chief organiser is the fact he plays at the line and actually takes it on also...would make perhaps more line breaks than any 7 in the NRL.

Agree with this.

Come to think of it, Pearce is probably about the closest thing there's is in the NRL these days to Foz in his prime...

5/8 is still more of an instinctive, running half, whereas the halfback is generally the organiser and first receiver

Only a small difference at current but it ranges between clubs

There's no difference. You go right you hit the 6 you go left you hit the 7 and vice versa.

Hell, you go backwards these days and you hit a lock who can kick and pass like the best of them.

At the end of the day, the more creative players you have in your team the better. No more cookie cutter rolls in rugby league anymore and its all the better for it.
