I think our biggest problem is we just dont have any high quality second tier players. Our stars are all very good and I honestly believe could win a premiership with our stars and that includes DCE. But our chorus-line is atrocious. DCE cops a lot of crap but he cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs ear, We need to purchase better more high end experienced back rowers, guys with a few miles on the clock as far as origin, Australian experience goes. Like Luke Lewis, Ryan Hoffman. Thompson was a good addition however he is not dynamic and never played at the elite level & he does not dominate opposition sides, we need to dominate as a pack. Our stars like Tom T, DCE, Tapau & Jake manage to keep us in games and we have a few young guns like Tom Wright and Parker that could be anything, however we have a second row that would not get a start at any other club. Thompson in any other club would be an addition to the pack as depth much like Shane Rodney or Glen Hall was in the good old days in fact that is exactly what he was to St George. We had Watmough, G Stewart as the cornerstones of our back row, now this year we have Jake and daylight. Sironen has been good but very injury prone.
This is due to salary cap and roster management. We have no experienced leaders in our forward pack and we don't hunt as a group. We have players that are amazing like Tapau and AFB but they seem to be doing it all alone. Guys like Lane, Winterstein, Perrett, Brown etc are just not up to first grade standard and this is where we fall down every week, because we simply don't dominate other packs we simply challenge them individually.
We need to go after guys like Josh Jackson and Dale Finucane or wade graham and have at least one more high end influential back rower to assist Jake, our front row is very good with Marty, AFB, Kelepi and hopefully paseka, fainu and sipley improving.
We need to start recruiting better because good recruitment is where the competitions are won and lost these days.
