2026 Rumoured and confirmed signings (NON-DISCUSSION THREAD).

Former NSW Origin star Ryan Matterson is returning to the NRL after an ill-fated stint under Sam Burgess at English club Warrington.

This masthead can reveal Matterson has played his last game for Warrington after struggling to settle in the UK following his mid-season departure from Parramatta to the Burgess-coached Wolves.

The 30-year-old played eight games for the Wolves, winning just once, and is keen to return to Australia after Burgess failed to steer Warrington to the playoffs.

The talented forward is adamant he is not a spent force in the NRL and has the option to return to Parramatta, with whom he remains contracted for the 2026 season.

The Eels gave permission for Matterson to join Warrington on loan after finding himself on the outer with new Parramatta coach Jason Ryles.

Matterson’s management are currently exploring options in Australia for the 181-game veteran, who played four NRL games this season for the Eels before heading abroad after being relegated to the NSW Cup.

Meanwhile, another Eel, outside back Bailey Simonsson, is tipped to remain at Parramatta next season.

The 27-year-old has been given permission to leave by the Eels but at this stage Simonsson will report for Parramatta’s 2026 pre-season.

The winger or centre played six games for the Eels this year and is contracted to the club until the end of 2027.

The Perth Bears will enter the open market from November 1 with Matterson and Simonsson both possible options for the NRL’s new 18th franchise.
