2026 recruitment & retention

Galvin is 6 foot 4 at 19 years old. I’m sure he’d want to stay as a half but realistically when he fills out over the next few years his best position will be a ball playing lock/back rower, same story with Ryan Matterson & probably plenty of others. This is definitely a few off seasons away though

The only setup where I can see this working, is if we get the "backrow whisperer" himself B.A. as an assistant coach, to turn Galvin into one next year. I have no idea why Galvin would do it, because he'd probably earn $1 million+ as a half at the Tigers.

Galvin is still signed to the Tigers for 2026 so I wasn’t talking about next year. I’m saying in 2-3 years time I think he’ll be a lock but I guess we’ll have to wait & see. Don’t think money would be a problem, salary cap going up & there already is Jake, Tino & Murray on $1million as locks with Carrigan & Yeo not far off

And therein lies our problem, you said Tino, Jake and Murray are on a million with Yeo and Carrigan not far off, can you see which one of those five mentioned players is getting wayyyyy more than he should, forgetting rhe fact that he's a great clubman?

Complements brooks who is 4 foot 6.

But bear in mind ...
Tino missed all last season, Murray misses all this season, but Jake always plays.
Long term deals probably all go through stages where they look smart and others they look dumb. I think Jake has been great value for Manly and, if he plays on, I've no doubt his next deal will be far cheaper.

What you say is partially correct , however the football ability of the others mentioned far exceeds the ability of Jake, admittedly Jake is substantially older, having said that Jake does bring leadership but so do the other.
Jake would not have been getting the money he's been paid if not for Tom As many clubs were willing to throw everything to entice them to leave as a joint package, but in reality it was Tom that they wanted.

I would like to see Croker, gordon released get tom starling and run him and Simpkin. Sign Fogarty, and. Top edge forward. My team would be
1. Tom
2. Saab
3. Garrick
4. Koula
5. Lehi
6. Brooks
7. Fogarty
8. Paseka
9. Tom starling
10. TKO
11. Hamaloe
12. Great edge
13. Jake
14. Simplin
15. Bully
16. Aloia
17. Ben turbo

We need someone to play left edge back rower as Burbo offers little.

I doubt we are after Galvin. He'd cost too much and if the rumours re Fogarty are right, our money is better spent elsewhere.

I'd be unloading Sipley, Aloiai, Burbo, Brown, Waddell, TKO ,Croker, Tevanga and several NSW Cup players. Severely cutting Tom and Jake salaries. Moving Jake to prop and throwing everything we can at the best up and coming young mids and edge players available. Will be a couple of years out of the 8 but build a young group that can improve together. Develop Walsh and Large as future halves. This has been an abysmal failure for the last decade. Time to change it up.

I think the Dogs would be a good chance of snaring Galvin. Gus is a massive fan and Luke Vella is on the coaching staff.

Galvin's second tattoo on his forearm reads "I.N.F.E" - short for "It's not for everyone", a favourite saying of his coach at Westfield Sports, Luke Vella.
"You get into the NRL now and it's really not (for everyone). You've got to work hard, it's so much dedication. There's so much you've got to sacrifice," Galvin said.
Vella remains a steady presence in Galvin's life and will catch up with the Tigers five-eighth for lunch every few weeks.
His own playing career at the Bulldogs was cut short by a horrific nerve injury suffered while making a tackle as a 20-year-old, but Vella has since progressed through the club's coaching ranks.
He joined Cameron Ciraldo's NRL staff ahead of the club's resurgent 2024 season.
"He's probably in the top three reasons I'm playing in the NRL," Galvin said.
"What he's done for my footy and how much he helped me and how much he guided me through school and that. He was massive for me.
"I thought I'd get them (the tattoos) on me and remind me of the people that have helped me and my two best mates."

With some smart signings in 2026, we can be ready to make a run at top 4 again. Although, I really see 2027 as our best opportunity to get the squad we want/need.
Losing all those players next year wouldn't really cost us much at all. They would all be replaced and can't be any worse than what they are delivering. Id be happy to keep TKO and Brown for one more year. The rest, im not fussed about.

I dunno. Taukeiaho has played one good game for us and been average in the rest. He's not likely to get any better given his age. Brown has been a non entity this year. They're both yesterdays men. Young, fit, mobile forwards is the way to go rather than old plodders.
