2026 recruitment & retention

See back in the day when Arko was the man had the current situation (it would never have happened) arisen he would not be looking at Fogarty or a pair of pensioners (Foran/Reynolds). He'd go after Nathan Cleary who is on contract until end of 2027.

Until he is delivered I see no other option other than taking the half from wherever DCE lands. Katoa is a decent player should DCE become a Dolphin, or a couple of option at Team Chook.

(I bet Knights are dirty the jumped in and grebbed that 6 from the slimey's)

Mitchell Moses should be the only othet player are looking at.

No doubt our recruitment team are already hammering Ivan Cleary and Trent Robinson to be our next head coach.

For those that dont understand eg Tony Mestrov - the Manly way is to be on the front foot and be proactive and ensure you are not blindsided/beaten and always reacting.

Wasn’t Arthurson at the helm when Bozo(the player, not the “interesting” character on this forum) left for more money to the Roosters?

Indeed. And John ‘The Hammer’ Harvey two years later. Plus when Fulton was their coach, they were interested in Gibbsy, and took on Gartner in 1982, when his career was on the downslope at Manly. Fulton left Russel high and dry, by returning to Manly in 1983.

In Fulton’s case, I think Arko knew he still had a team that could win a title, which they did two years later.

Meanwhile the Goosters, after signing Fulton, waited another 26 years before they won another title. In the interim Manly won another three, with Fulton of course coaching two of those sides.

Didn’t that winger Elsegood go there as well?

By saying we’re going after Haas, we’ve forced the Broncos and other clubs to up their offers, putting them under cap pressure. It’s a smart move to make things harder for them, even though we’ve got no real chance of signing him.

war chest...war chests everywhere!!!

Superstar Broncos prop Payne Haas has emerged as a potential target for Manly in the wake of Daly Cherry-Evans’ decision to quit the Sea Eagles at season’s end.
But while Manly have an interest in Haas, they won’t be making a formal play for his teammate Adam Reynolds, with the Sea Eagles to prioritise the pursuit of Canberra halfback Jamal Fogarty ahead of the Broncos skipper.

Manly have cash to spend following Cherry-Evans’ Brookvale bombshell and Sea Eagles chief executive Tony Mestrov says the club is targeting a marquee front-row signing for 2027 and beyond.

That brings Haas into the frame, with the Broncos enforcer off-contract at the end of 2026, meaning he is a free agent open to rival offers from November 1 this year.

Mestrov concedes it would be a near Mission Impossible task to convince Haas to leave the Broncos, but says the NSW Origin star is a player of interest if he chooses to test his value on the open market.

Journo: Hey Mestrov, would you have Haas in your side.
Mestrov: Well der... everyone would.
Journo: Cool, thanks, now I have my 500 word "story" I needed by lunchtime.
