2026 Penrith Approach?

I think every club has emerging talented juniors, there have been a few to copy the Panthers foot print with junior type academies, the Pathways I personally thought brought through some very talented players unfortunately only a small percentage of them have kicked on.

To your point with Large and Walsh great signings, I think they both will have had a taste of first grade by mid next season, if the club are fortunate enough to get a few younger players that make the most of their opportunities the club will be in a strong position.

The club that is the closest to going through what you have highlighted this season is the Rorters, they have a wealth of top line junior talent that have had a taste of first grade and will see first grade this season, could make them a shot at playing semi finals this season, I had them in my top 8 based on their younger players.

Bit off topic maybe but I was thinking about players that have come through Manly's pathways and did kick on but not stayed at Manly.
Most notable are JWH 3 (premierships) and Gutho (king).
Also - Verrills - premiership winner
Garner - premiership winner
Preston - going well at dogs
Hynes - dally M medal
Humphreys - (worth 900k according to Joey) :giggle:
extra Hoppa - first grade raider
Weekes - first grade raider
Fainu x 3 two of them going ok at Tiges
Tom Amone - won Challenge Cup final in England, back now at Dogs
Luke Metcalf - 5/8 at warriors
Ramien - Sharks
Foran (rings a bell?)
Lussick, Joey (Eel)
Terrell May was in our Blacktown reseeve grade

(plus also-rans/ former next-big-things Feledy, Fifita, Latu, Schuster still may do something

which makes 21 in current NRL squads at other clubs

Unfortunately, you cant keep them all.

I don't mourn any of them, obviously one or two in hindsight would have been handy to keep 🙂
More just shows how much modern NRL is a moveable feast, an entertainment circus if you like, and player movement is the norm not the exception.
Possibly also highlights what an advantage it can be to have some roster stability and continuity, because many players have some ability but fitting well into a team is another matter.

What a shame with had Terrel May & didn’t get to keep him. I remember hearing him on a podcast say Covid ruined his chances at manly because he was left home while the others went into the bubble for the rest of the season

It’s also good to see Zaidas has progressed from SG Ball to Flegg & now making his debut in Reggie’s as well. To me it seems like the club is trying to fast track him to a 1st grade debut this year

The one that hurt from that list is JWH.

I remember it well at the time , the Roosters blew us out of the water offering a 20 year old a huge contract. But , it was worth every cent as he was a big reason they were so dominant for many years.

Hynes & Gutho would have been nice too , but players will go to where they can get a regular first grade gig , and you cannot blame them.

i could be wrong but wasn't that said in reference to the brown deal at the nites? as in if brown is worth $1.3m per season than with the lack of halves available than j.h. would be worth 900k
