2025 recruitment & retention

A guy on the West Tigers forum is saying they will be signing Simione Laifai & that it was ‘basically a trade with Large’. Hopefully this rumour isn’t true & we aren’t losing potentially our first dominate prop since AFB left… has anyone heard anything about this? Would seem ridiculous to let him go with our aging front rowers

According to zero tackle, he is meant to be a development player in 2025 and join our top 30 in 2026

Was given a Development contract in 25 and a top 30 contract with us not long back.

If it was a trade you'd wonder why they didn't spruik it when they lost Large. Wait n see I guess.

Interesting, though highly doubt that it is connected with the signing of Onitoni Large, that was a significant signing that would have stung the Tigers and there was no mention of a swap at the time.

Could be an underlying reason in the Miller sacking last week, see how it plays out but there are plenty of rumours circulating.

Hopefully it's Bull s#$t.

I went to the tigers forum when we signed Large to see what the view on him were.

So bloke reckoned Brent Naden was coming to Manly too😆.

Wait and see. It is the Silly season. And 1st Nov is later this week. Will be more wheeling and dealing going on than Oxford Street.

Simione Laiafi - Bass High

Cody Hopwood - All Saints College

Cody Hopwood.
The barnstorming front rower was crucial in the Bass High run to the Peter Mulholland Cup finals with his mix of raw power and ballplaying ability in the middle of the field. Laifai finished the year in the Australian Schoolboys side and was rewarded with a contract extension at the Sea Eagles which will have him in the Top 30 squad in 2026. Knights young gun Cody Hopwood is arguably the best front row prospect in the country. Raw talent and high work rate combine to deliver the ultimate package in the middle, a two-time Australian schoolboys representative, NSW Under-19s Origin champion and already had a taste of NSW Cup action before finishing school.

They don't even have a top 30 spot left for Sione Fainu next year, why on earth would they try to get Laiafi? I doubt Wests have room. He's already got a guaranteed Top 30 spot at Manly for 2026, no way the club lets him walk, and he gives up that opportunity. They let Large walk, because they couldn't come to an agreement about his future, with Luai, Fainu, and Galvin already there. Laiafi has pretty much no one ahead of him here, and they resigned Aloiai to keep him here. Probably coping BS.

Edit: it's from a single guy, hasn't even replied to any of the questions about his claim... Given there was no leak about this when Large departed, I highly doubt this to be true.

I think you are right but just wanted to hear if anyone had heard anything about this. Only reason I thought it might be possible is that they would have a development spot open & possibly looking for another young front rower to replace Miller that they sacked earlier this week. Hopefully you are right & its just more Tigers fan coping

We could really up the "fued" between the clubs and sign Miller lol. Wouldn't mind that at all. He looked good for Fiji.

Having both Laiafi and Miller at the club as the future middles would be very nice to have!

He's a big unit for only 19! Sounds like he might have some attitude problems, but hey, what 19yr old doesn't

Nah this one isn’t true, you can rest easy.
