Prompted by some discussion in another thread... I tried to look this up, not that easy to find but found this one

NRL finals system - Wikipedia

Still not 100% sure how it works ... possibly we may get a Brookie final in 1st week - but only if we finish higher than our opponent and only if the opponent is not a Sydney team. (But I repeat, not sure!)

Using last year as reference, the Sharks finished higher than the Roosters,6 vs 7,and played their first final at Shark Park(PointsBet Stadium) despite having minimal capacity. So that suggests to me that the higher team will get a home final week 1 no matter who they play

Got the members Grand Final presale email this morning, without prior warning and 30 minutes before it opened. Maybe clubs for which this is more relevant are better organised... 😢

This whole finding out which team plays who is just so unprofessional and amateurish by the NRL less than 6 weeks out from the semis. Their should be a semi's guide out for the fans now, and how it all works. It's like the NRL haven't made up there minds on the system they'll choose.

It has been and still is Week 1 - home ground ( club's choice), Week 2 - home region, Week 3 - home region

So Week 1 - Highest ranked Sydney clubs that finish 1,2, 5,6 get the choice of playing at home or moving to a bigger venue.

Week 2 - Highest ranked Sydney clubs play at Accor or Allianz (unless you are Parra, they play at CommBank)

Week 3 prelims - Home Region so last year Panthers at Accor, Broncos at Suncorp

* home region is effectively their home grounds so say Cowboys don't have to move to Suncorp, can stay at Townsville

What do you mean? The top 8 system they use now has been set in place since 2012.Only change has been on whether the higher placed team gets a “real” home game the first week of the finals and that’s been back in place for a couple of seasons, barring Covid years.

Doesn't the NRL have the right to change venues at a regular suburban ground regardless of the format that is used now. Seem to remember a case where the NRL stepped in and forced a change to get more fans on seats at a particular game.

Not sure if that’s the case but given the Sharks/Roosters final last season was played at a construction site known as Points Bet Stadium, doubt they’d apply that ruling anywhere else

The NRL rule is every finals team finishing higher gets a home final in week 1 except Manly. Should all know this by now. Something about nuclear fallout at Brookvale.
You do realise that the last time Manly were eligible to host a HOME final that wasn’t during Covid years, was 2019 and it was played at Brookvale, right?
