So one more match than Spencer Leniu got for a racial comment directed at Mam. Not denying that both are wrong but there is a chasm of difference between the seriousness of the offences. He should seriously be sitting out the season on zero pay while the bronco's still have to carry his pay on their cap. He is very lucky that he didn't kill someone and that's as serious as it gets

Didn't the NRL say, they would wait to see what sort of penalty the judge was going to hand down. Only a $800 fine. Hence, only a 9 wks suspension.

What’s more serious…..driving with drugs in your system, unlicensed, injuring a 4 yr old girl, her mother & the driver or pretending to hump a dog, urinate in your mouth, make a racist remark? Looks like the latter 3 according to the moron Magistrate, Broncos & Mam supporters. Bronson Xerri got caught taking steroids. The NRL banned him for 4 years & he hurt no one but himself. This pri<k gets a $850 fine & the NRL give him 9 weeks for illegal drugs in his system, driving unlicensed & causing injuries to 3 innocent people….absolute joke! 4 weeks rehab & he’s ready to go? Wow got over his misdemeanours pretty quickly. Seems the greats are more worried about his well being than that of the ones he recklessly injured.
A proper penalty should have been given by the magistrate including jail time & a fine befitting his salary. The NRL should deregister him for no less than 12 months & fine him a years salary. The money should go to the injured parties. Instead he’s laughing all the way to the bank whilst the 4 yr old girl, her mother & Uber driver suffer.

It's a really tough area.
I've known courts to issue arrest warrants for the victim! the cops then have to go and arrest the victim and bring them to court so they can either give their evidence or explain why not.
There are many reasons why victims of DV don't turn up. Intimidation or bribery on behalf of the accused is merely one possibility (but an accused getting caught doing that is looking at a far harsher sentence than for an assault).
This was in the news only days ago. A lot of the same factors are at play in sex assault cases.

Bottom line is a lot of men commit these sort of offences and escape punishment at law. On the other hand men in May's situation (where the victim, nearly 12 months later and for whatever reason doesn't want to re-live the incident in open court) are not 'cleared' or even found not guilty. Such men might have a lot of work to do over a long period before being trusted.
As I say, a tough area of law and attacks on women remain a massive stain on our reputation as a civilised country.
