A fractured cheekbone that once cost Tom Trbojevic an Australian Test jersey has apparently saved him from suffering a similar injury as Manly gear up for a finals assault.

Trbojevic copped a knock to his jaw as he spearheaded an astonishing 56-10 thrashing of Parramatta on Saturday, and has reported swelling and bruising from the injury afterward.

In a Sea Eagles statement posted on Sunday morning, the star fullback's blow was eased by "a plate that he has from a previous fracture which prevented a serious injury from occurring".

Whether Trbojevic is available for Friday's clash with Canberra will be determined during the week.

Given his rare run of form and the fact he holds more influence over Manly's fortunes than any other player at any other club, the news is as welcome as it gets for the Sea Eagles and coach Des Hasler.

Trbojevic's previous fracture was suffered in the final round of a disastrous 2018 campaign for Manly, with the corrective surgery ruling him out of the Kangaroos end of season fixtures that year.

A fractured cheekbone that once almost cost Tom Trbojevic an Australian Test jersey has apparently saved him from suffering a similar injury as Manly gear up for a finals assault.

Whether Trbojevic is available for Friday's clash with Canberra will be determined during the week but initial signs appear that he's unlikely to suit up.

Teammate Brad Parker is also expected to be ruled out of Friday night's clash against the Raiders following a nasty head knock after being floored by Ryan Matterson.

(Updated: Monday, 23 August 2021)

Sea Eagles lock Jake Trbojevic expects his brother Tom Trbojevic to line up for the side's clash against Canterbury this weekend after missing a week with a cheekbone injury.

Trbojevic was a late withdrawal before Manly's 19-18 win over Canberra last week with Jake declaring Tom was right to go.

"He'll be fine to play, it was just a precaution last week," Jake said.

"It was three years ago he got a plate put in and it just flared up. It got a bit swollen for a day and then it was pretty much normal.

"He was fine and wanted to play, he was bugging Des [to play] but they just pulled him."

Sea Eagles centre Brad Parker also declared himself available for selection on Monday after having a week off following the Ryan Matterson tackle that left him dazed.

  • Brad Parker (Concussion, Round 24)
  • Zac Saddler (Cheekbone, Round 24)
  • Tom Trbojevic (Cheekbone, Round 24)
  • Sean Keppie (Personal, Round 25)
  • Taniela Paseka (Ankle, Round 25)
  • Tevita Funa (Suspension, Finals)

Going on this updated report, we will be at full strength come the last round. Of course barring any further injuries and suspensions. Something to smile about.
