Reserve Grader
Hi all,
I have stayed quite on here for since last 2017. The current state of Manly is almost more frustrating than under Barrett, the bright light is that the young talent looks to be a good thing. As many people seem to feel, 2020 could be a building year with Turbo and Walker out for a good while and Parra being the clear golden child of the NRL this year. So with that said, I feel the remainder of the year could be a trial for some new young up and comers.
Josh Schuster - needs a run at 5/8 as he at the very least will give something in attack (and might be able to convert at a higher rate than 60 odd %).
Ben Trbojevic - would be a welcome addition to the bench. Let him come in to spell a forward in a hybrid centre/second row role. Just like Schuster, he is lighting in a bottle which the team has nothing of right now. I suspect he will be the perfect replacement for Thompson next year.
Haumole Olakau'atu - This kid is a monster. Pair him with Marty and AFB plus Paseka coming on of late will be a very very large forward pack next year. Give him a few minutes off the bench and let him and Paseka adjust to the higher impact of first grade.
Luke Metcalf - There seemed to be huge raps on this kid but seems to have been forgotten? I feel we know what Crocker offers and I feel Cust is better suited splitting time at 9 with Levi. I also believe that Walker is better suited to centre so ideally finding a 5/8 would be great
Albert Hopoate - Now this is where I will make a lot of people unhappy. Tom can't stay at fullback. Running 10km a game is having too much impact on his hamstrings. So hear me out when I say this, Hoppa to Fullback, Turbo to centre when he gets back.
So with that said, my team for next week would be:
1. Albert Hopoate
2. Jorge Taufua
3. Brad Parker
4. Moses Suil
5. Reuben Garrick
6. Josh Schuster
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Taniela Paseka
9. Danny Levi
10. Martin Taupau
11. Joel Thompson
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic
14. Cade Cust
15. Haumole Olakau'atu
16. Mogan Boyle
17. Ben Trbojevic
When AFB is back I'd have:
1. Albert Hopoate
2. Jorge Taufua
3. Brad Parker
4. Moses Suil
5. Reuben Garrick
6. Josh Schuster
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Addin Fonua-Blake
9. Danny Levi
10. Martin Taupau
11. Joel Thompson
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic
14. Cade Cust
15. Haumole Olakau'atu
16. Mogan Boyle
17. Taniela Paseka
18. Ben Trbojevic
When Walker is back I'd have (assuming Schuster players well)
1. Albert Hopoate
2. Jorge Taufua
3. Dylan Walker
4. Moses Suil
5. Reuben Garrick
6. Josh Schuster
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Addin Fonua-Blake
9. Danny Levi
10. Martin Taupau
11. Joel Thompson
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic
14. Cade Cust
15. Haumole Olakau'atu
16. Mogan Boyle
17. Taniela Paseka
18. Ben Trbojevic
And finally when Tom returns I'd have:
1. Albert Hopoate
2. Jorge Taufua
3. Dylan Walker
4. Tom Trbojevic
5. Reuben Garrick
6. Josh Schuster
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Addin Fonua-Blake
9. Danny Levi
10. Martin Taupau
11. Joel Thompson
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic
14. Cade Cust
15. Haumole Olakau'atu
16. Mogan Boyle
17. Taniela Paseka
18. Ben Trbojevic
Moving to 2021 I'd keep the same as above except with Ben Trbojevic replacing Thompson and possibly dropping Levi for Cust should he perform and opening up a bench utility to someone with spark.
The chances of any of this happening I suspect is basically zero. Maybe Hoppa get a run at fullback until Tom is back and maybe Schuster gets a run at 5/8 to Walker gets back is the best we can hope for.
