No, not for this site (though who knows what Christmas presents Dan has in store for us), but some tweaks for the footy season....

https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/12/18/2019-season-rule-amendments/

The new rules for 2019 will include:

• A reduction of the scrum clock – reducing from 35 to 30 seconds

• A reduction of the drop-out clock – reducing from 30 to 25 seconds

• An increase to dangerous contact neck or head charges – with Grade 2 increasing to 300 points and Grade 3 increasing to 500 points (a Grade 1 charge will remain at 100 points)

• Any player sent to the sin bin or sent off will be required to run from the field of play, taking the most direct route to the dressing room. Failure to do so may lead to Clubs being breached and fined under NRL Rules and/or offending players may be charged with Contrary Conduct under the NRL Judiciary Code

• Allowing the Judiciary Panel to find a player guilty of an alternative charge when charged with a Shoulder Charge (e.g. Dangerous Contact)

Mr Annesley also confirmed that no change would be made to the number of interchange players for season 2019.

Does rule (178-A12 Bronco's, Storm & Roosters are exempt in the above from all mentioned rules in section 178) in the salary cap still stand?

"may" , jeez can't they just say "it will"!

Exactly what we needed less of!

All the players will do is start limping, or faking some sort of other injury as not to have to run quickly.

Y'all heard it here first... yeehah!
I will add these then:
I couldn't remember where the rooms were. The trainer had my medication. There was a divot on the field. I was concussed. My shoe came off. I didn't realize the ref was talking to me. I was scared of that seagull. I thought I saw....insert name of attractive/famous man/woman here.....in the crowd.

Having scrum clocks and drop out clocks is not necessary.
RL should be like basketball. When the ball is not in play the time stops. For example, when the ball is dropped and a scrum is call the time should stop. When it crosses the sideline the time should stop.
Yes, it will add to the length of the match but this addition will be action.

They are trying to speed the game up, using your rule the game would slow down dramatically as players would walk and rest during the ball being out of play. I like your rule of stopping the clock but the shot clock is still necessary to speed up the game

That last one worries me a bit.

It says to me that basically if you get a shoulder charge charge but the judiciary can't find you guilty of one, they will charge you with dangerous contact.

So essentially you're screwed if you get cited by the MRC.

I am not so worried about it - I am in the camp that believes that the duty is on the tackler not to make contact with the head - but find the summary oddly worded. Does it mean that the Match Review Panel cannot lay a dangerous contact charge more generally?

Anyway, the person who should be worried is Sam Burgess because this new charge means he should be spending about half the season out! Same with Napa. Remember burgess’ hit on DCE in 2017? A ‘dangerous contact’ charge would have been appropriate for that type of tackle.

For me, though, the dangerous contact charge will be made only if there is enough hysteria about the incident. It will be trial by media.

Only when shoulder charges and spear tackles result in a player being sent off will I believe that the NRL is taking protection of the players’ head/neck seriously. Send offs are the best deterrent.

And how about the impossible to implement sin bin clock?

You know the one that rugby seems to be able to put on the tv screen and even in the 7's comp as well. NFL have all sorts of clocks. NBA have some crazy thing called a shot clock that runs the entire game. Was even watching some ping pong from korea the other day that had a countdown clock.

How bloody hard could it be?

No change to that, and I believe rule 1289A(b)(Ii) “Manly loading” still stands too.

I'd still like to know how the Chooks can have 18 rep players (16 of them internationals), with three of that lot on million dollar per year contracts, plus another 12 players, all under a $9.4M salary cap with "only" about $200k in TPA's.

Stuff looking at their books. As I saw @Mark from Brisbane say on Facebook the other day.....they should be checking Politis' golf score cards.

You are being way too sensible ... NRL doesn't "do" sensible well. They prefer complicated and difficult to enforce rulings that frustrate fans.
