Since he joined Manly, has there even been a month gone by that Tom Wright hasn't been injured?

Either way, depending on how things go with Api at hooker I think the future will probably be (once Green is done) Hastings at 5/8 and either Api or Cullen at hooker.

Tom Wright is something special. Watching that tape in a badly losing team in the limited number of games he played shows just how talented this kid is. The latest injury, a broken jaw, cant be considered in the usual injury susceptibility. That's just pure bad luck and could happen to any footballer (remember Sattler in Souths Grand Final 1971).

I havent seen much of Cullen, but Tom Wright and Hastings look special talents to me. Not this year, maybe next, I could easily see Hastings at hooker and Tom Wright at five eighth, and together with DCE, Kelly, Walker, TT and Schuster, they could make an exceptionally dangerous combination

These highlights are so misleading. You'd swear Manly must have won every match in the Under 20s in 2016.
While the kid is built for league and has plenty of attacking skills I don't think the hype around him is justified. I hope I'm wrong.

There was one little thing in that video that impressed me big time. He has the right attitude

Forget the tries, defense etc its was when he scored just on the line against the knights and then the knights player picked up the ball and started jogging off - Tom got up quickly and started to chase him down and was the first player there when the knights player stopped.

Hastings for me . 6 and 7 are critical positions in every team every year . Whether its from an aging star , to a player that just doesn't cut it or a player you chase but miss out on you need that experience .Thats why i think we a in a great position to have a player like hastings slot straight into the 6 and i have a feeling manly do as well.

Great that there at least appear to be some realistic options for the spot from within the club.

Whichever of Wright or Hastings, I really hope that the bloke in the 6 in 2018 is one of these two.

Ive seen a bit of Tom Wright and he has some real talent. He has good vision to be a half, good acceleration and step and is a big boy for his age. I also have loved from what i have seen from Cullen. He is a real competitor and tough for his size. Has a good passing game as well.

Excited to see hastings too. Dont think we have seen the best of him yet. Kid has talent and self belief . In a good position with 3 young talented players who could step up and do a good job.

Having DCE and green to help guide them is a positive as well.

The fact that he stood out so profoundly in such a weak side side says loads. Easy to be a star in a top of the table side. Not so easy when you are one of the few with talent and therefore targeted and still stand out. Make no mistake. This kid is a pearl among the slops

We saw what a legitimate halves partner in Green can do for this team and conversely saw what effect not having one can do (2016 and 2018). Currently we have Hodkinson, Wright and Croker on our books, none of which have worked at various times during this year (our most successful player in the 5/8th role in terms of wins is probably Walker).

There is very little on the open market and obviously we are completely hamstrung at this time with the Salary Cap investigation.

This isn't the only issue we have in relation to our playing roster, but it is one that continually been an obvious downfall and unfortunately it may again be the case next year unless the SC issue is resolved in a timely manner (in our favour) and we can actually look to enter the player market.

Blacktown recently signed a kid from Wyong which is the roosters feeder club ,His name is Dean Matterson and is a 5/8 ,maybe just replace Hastings or maybe a player for 2019

It's highly unlikely to happen but I'd be building a war chest over the next season and a half and letting go some good players unfortunately but get enough cash to attempt to sign Nathan and Ivan Cleary.

Menzies and Cliff Lyons had a remarkable strategy that got us try after try. It was simple stuff as Menzies described. He would follow Lyons behind and then run through in the opposite direction taking an inside pass from the distributing master at the right moment. Looks simple but I'd say these two practised the play over and again. These two need to be invited into the team training and pick who ever has the best skills to learn from these two how to make breaks. For example Tom Wright could learn a great deal from Menzies, both tall, fast, evasive, hard to bring down when they are in full flight. Perhaps with Walker playing the Lyons role, they could make a devastating combination especially if Tom T is also lurking as an option.

But all this needs a coach to get hold of these guys and get them going through the tactics over and over again over the summer break. If Barrett stays he needs to bring in some champion Manly players to help create a greater range of strategies than we are seeing. He also needs to get some tough ex forwards, including Menzies who had a great bootlace defensive style, to teach some of these guys how to tackle effective and how to line up effectively like Melbourne.

At present the players look like they are going through very predictable procedures, and then ad lidding without any structured attacking plays. I'm surprised how undisciplined and structureless they look at many times during the game. No imagination. Very little in pre-planned strategies.
