I believe he was previously in the squad (2015), so they probably don’t see any benefit to having him there again.

Curtis was in the squad in 2015, but so was Tepai Moeroa and he is there again. Cleary and Latrell were also both there last year so I don’t think that played a part.

SEA Eagles prop Lloyd Perrett signed a lifetime contract this week which he says will take his game to another level next season.

Manly coach Trent Barrett gave him a leave pass from training to marry fiancee Shelly Martin on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

The couple were acquaintances through the Mormon church before they started going out two years ago.

Shelly is not really a league fan but Perrett said the benefits of his marriage would show on the field next year.

“I’m not a party boy or anything but something solid and something to look forward to go home to I think will help my football,” he said. “I’m excited to settle down on the beaches and have my family and hopefully play good footy so I can be there for the long run.”

But none of Perrett’s Sea Eagles’ teammates were able to share the big day with him as they were back in Sydney continuing their pre-season preparations.

The 23-year-old prop was given an opportunity by Barrett after falling out of favour with Bulldogs coach Des Hasler after signing a four-year deal with the club in 2014.

He repaid the faith shown in him by Manly, making 15 NRL appearances in 2017 and helping to provide a solid platform up front.

“The only reason I didn’t play as much as I could have was injury,” he said.

Perrett fractured an eye socket in the first round and was injured again in his comeback game.

“Hopefully I can stay healthy and get a full season under my belt,” he said.

“I feel really confident in my ability. The things I knew I was capable of but wasn’t allowed to do at the Bulldogs I was able to do here at Manly.”

This year Perrett, who yesterday was named in Queensland’s Emerging Origin squad, started to offload the ball and use the mobility he has as a big man.

“Baz (Barrett) lets us use our talents, use our gifts and doesn’t confine us to anything,” he said.

The door has been further opened for Perrett following the departure of experienced ;rop Brenton Lawrence.

“We’ve got Darcy (Lussick) who is a veteran and myself and Addin Fonua-Blake who are only young fellas but we have played plenty of football,” he said.

“We’ll both definitely be putting our hands up. I know I need to keep ticking the boxes over the break and make sure I’m keeping my conditioning up.”

It is interesting because Lichaa made similar comments at the end of this year, and said that when he decided to just start playing his own way he was way better.

That wedding photo is the first time I have ever seen Lloyd Perrett crack a smile. Ever. He is almost always ice cold.

He has good go forward and I'm a fan. Got the chance to give him a high five after the Penrith thrashing in round 26. Keen to see him step it up in 2018
