    So it seems to be a thing now, if a player is dropped to reserve grade he immediately wants out?? Going on recent articles about Sam Walker and Lomax, maybe Schuster and Flanagan, just because they got dropped? Seems ridiculous.

    Also Freddy Lussick at Warriors is going well, although he was poached by Parra when he was 17 I think. That's two competent dummy halves gone. Daniel O'Donnell is in Flegg, a local boy, son of Dave. Going nicely as a dummy half. Gotta keep him.

    In some ways we got Dce and schuster the same way. Both had uncles in manly reserve grade. So family connections are important, and not necessarily first graders, it is club culture.

    Someone told me that we got 3 great players from the west - Boyd, Dorahy and brown. Of course I corrected them - they are all from nsw country!! Just passed through the magpies

    It has paid some dividends, but manly has traditionally done better with a mix of locals, country boys and Queenslanders. I think adding some western Sydney guys has been a good thing, but I’d keep the other channels open too.

    The premier players get older and move up grades. The next crop aren’t always brilliant, so it’s not that simple.
