So Des was blameless for pushing our potential star five eighth into the second row was he? Bit of revisionist history there Woodsie. You haven't been learning from John Howard have you?. Even stated he wasn't going to do it. Foran will be used off the bench or maybe as hooker, he said. I...

Jake Trbojevic offers nothing in attack

No I didn't miss the point at all. In the modern game the props tend to dominate the centre, the second row outside and the lock a wandering role. The second row and lock, for gaining ground, will often take their turn run up the centre. So will even wingers for that matter. But in attacking...

    The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

The implication there is that anyone playing five eight must be lazy. He was put in the 5/8 spot because he was outstanding in the role, better than as a second rower. Won awards for it including State Player of the Year U16s, Ken Arthurson and Jake Trbojevic rising star awards, and was...

Jake Trbojevic offers nothing in attack

Have to disagree old mate. I dont think the role of lock has changed that much over the years. The vast majority playing lock today also played only second row. A look through the rest I find one who played 5/8, two who played hooker, two who played centre including Yeo. There are a few who have...

Bit of the cart before the horse there EB. Let's go back to 2020. He was a star junior and got his first opportunity in first grade in Round 17 as 5/8. That was his first and only appearance in first grade that year. Suffered an injury and didn't play another game that year. But it was an...

Jake Trbojevic offers nothing in attack

I agree that Jake is a prop and was never worth it at lock. A lock needs to be quick, mobile, tough, a good cover defender especially out wide., good lateral movement, operate wide near the centres and cover both sides. Bullemor could be the answer. Burbo if he's improved as expected this year...

But he was Eaglebuzz. Remember his first game Benji Marshall stated after the game it was the most impressive first up game he had seen from a young player. He had just come from top class performances in the juniors.

Such a disappointment if Bennett cant get this kid motivated. Got immense skills that have been seriously wasted. If he fails, he's one I got quite wrong about. Whatever the cause, its a shame the mental attitude does not match up with the obvious potential. I'm still hopeful, but if a coach of...

    Burbo to lock?

Granted young Burbo has a bit to do. I would suggest a couple of points though. When attention is drawn to a young player, expectations are high. This is a kid from Turbo and Jurbo stock and therefore there's a tendency to expect unrealistic wonders from the youngest. Ben is not going to be as...

    Burbo to lock?

I like it Rmd. He's been developing year by year, and at 23 for a forward he is approaching his best years. The kid has speed for a forward, good defense and could cause trouble out wide given he plays centre and would effectively become an extra back. Needs to be tougher and stronger and...

    Lehi Hopoate

And a top forward he is. Cleal played much of his career in the forwards, but also did some stints in the centre and broke one or two tackles there

    Lehi Hopoate

Bring back Noel Cleal. He knew how to break a tackle or four.

Coaching and the media. The latter for sure.

Probably right Disco, given what ISZ is saying that lower clubs often pay overs for top players. I was tending to give a basic market value given his age, but then clubs would up the price to ensure they got the prize

Warriors Dolphins Titans Rabbits Tigers Roosters Bulldogs Knights Cowboys Dragons Raiders If they had the money and given his age I'd say about $7-800,000 per annum on 2 year contract

    DCE to announce retierment

Agreed LC. I think back to 2018. We were one game away from the Wooden Spoon that year and much depended on DCE to avoid that trophy so to speak. DCE has got Manly out of many scrapes over the years. His experience during our very ordinary years over the past decade kept our head above water.

    DCE to announce retierment

I wonder if DCE impacted so well in his first season because he had been held back in lower grade because of the half backs we had then, and had his first game when aged 22. He certainly exploded onto the scene in his first year. I remember watching him play some games on TV for Manly's then QLD...

    DCE to announce retierment

I'd make one addition to that list even though he didn't play in the grand final. That was John Gibbs. He did much to get Manly to the 1978 grand final but injury kept him out of the Grand Final side. He was selected for the Kangaroos given his outstanding efforts that year. So he and Martin...
