    So far off the pace

It was on Manly's stats but I did a quick calculation of Garrick's tackles for this year which were 394 and 66 missed tackles making it closer to your figure at 83.02 over 24 games. Koula had only 146 tackles and 37 missed tackles over 21 games so it seems he only did half as many tackles in...

Agreed Disco. Though I think Dion's summary was well put together, I also think he was harsh on Garrick, and also on Jake who, as he pointed out, had the best defensive record in the team, an area where some other players were at times disappointing. Certainly the hooker issue needs to be...

    So far off the pace

Said it all through the year. Manly's problem is DEFENCE, and it seems the coaching staff don't seem able to rectify the problem Hooker is a problem but it can be overlooked if our defense structure remains tight. I look at Penrith and the Storm and see a well structured and committed defense. I...

Specifically what holes? The only holes that I can envisage, are those imposed to circumvent the process such as too many exemptions.

The other option to a draft, which is actually used in most US sports, is the points value system for players and you're only allowed a certain number of points total for your 30 players. Then it doesn't matter what they are paid, a club then has a limit regarding who they can recruit and...

I think what Bozo is trying to suggest is that oft used Nietzsche saying 'That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.'

The game has moved on from me and a lot of people from my generation

I've been a Manly supporter since about 1965 and recall the Sea Eagles struggled to achieve supremacy in the late 60s and early 70s. Always reading up on Alan Clarkson' s comments about the games before and after. Heading down to Brookie (I lived up the hill) for games rain or shine. Visited...

Thanks. I wasn't sure if they had played together. A shame they didn't

Gutherson and Tom Trbojevic would have played only two or three games together. Gutherson emerged in 2014 and left at the end of 2015. Turbo started in 2015. Manly came second in 2014 and 9th in 2015. DCE was the half in both seasons

Absolutely. Though our centres weren't up to scratched, imagine a team with Trubo at full back, DCE at half....and Gutho at 5/8. That would be a stand out combination

Probably feels like 60 years to the average Eels supporter.

The Eels are at risk of contesting the wooden spoon in 2025 unless they pickup some class acts soon They have some but is it enough?

    3 Favourite Current Manly players

I know how you feel. I enjoyed the park football style at Brookie, sitting on the hill 20 metres north and watching my boyhood favourites of late 60s. Bob Batty, the Yakich brothers, Ian Martin, Billy Bradstreet, Cranky Frank Stanton, Les Hannigan, Alec Tennant, Pogo Morgan, Herman Hamilton, Ken...

Actually I'd have Bullemor at lock. Good defense, agile and fast

    2026 recruitment & retention

I'm far from convinced the Shoe is yesterday's news. I suspect for a number of reasons, pushing him into the second row when he was coming of age after being seen as the next big thing at 5/8, injuries, weight issues partly the result of the second row/5/8 switch, personal demons probably...

    2026 recruitment & retention

Given Seibold's strategy of signing experienced short term players to fill in until star juniors appear, I suspect the Sea Eagles have Joey Walsh and Onitoni Large as their future half/ five eighth combination. May change, as these things often do, but these two look like the next DCE/Foran...

    Tommy Talau

Certainly I agree Manly needs to keep him. He's done an excellent job and despite the Sea Eagles having five quality players to fill four positions, injuries will always ensure that one wont be a fifth wheel.
