Yet another thing the AFL do perfectly and the NRL does well, shall we say pisspoor (and I am being very complimentary using that term).
So the AFL season finishes, and then they follow up with a trade period of around 2 weeks in which any player deals for season 2019 must be concluded by 8pm today, no exceptions, backflips, might he, mightn’t he. Captures the imagination of the fans, extends the excitement of the season, and has transparency and consistency. Then they have a live telecast draft period (for the kids coming through) for 2 days which again keeps fans engaged. Soccer does this around the world. Set periods in which clubs can conclude trade deals, and that’s it. No more posturing, lies and bull****. Cleancut and final.
And here we have the NRL. Seriously, how fkn hard is it to get it right when every other bastard has done the hard yards in tweaking the model over decades. It’s a no-brainer, costs nothing and creates excitement. Just why is it so hard for the imbeciles that run our game to adopt this model?
