Wouldn't take him now, would have happily taken him before we got Green on board

His last couple of incidents, no laws were broken, nobody was harmed, yet the media ran him out of town and people are quite happy to hop on the media bandwagon

Stoked to see this morning that Dugan has got his lawyers onto whoever printed the latest crap about him for defamation, hope he takes a nice big chunk out of the wankers wallets

The same issues that plagued Hastings at Roosters are rearing their head at Manly. He is not well liked and his efforts in NSW Cup are not winning him any fans at the club; he is sulking again.

Don't be surprised if he gets moved on. Green isn't going anywhere soon either. The club won't even have a casual look at Carney. The halves aren't the problem anyway...also Carney is not an organiser...Green is a much better style alongside Chez.

OK. So it seems from your comments that we don't need Carney.
What about a goal-kicker for 2018?
Yes, Hastings can kick goals, but is he good enough to be in our top 13?
I wonder if Twenty will ask Kelly to kick next season. He'll have one full season of first grade experience, and we know he did kick in earlier rep teams. Nathan Cleary has proved that age doesn't matter when it comes to the pressure of being a team's goal kicker.

Carney was a really good player, but I think the team we have get along well. They just need to put in the effort and they could be contenders

I can't believe there are still some people out there that think Carney was sacked solely due to the bubbler.
Apart for him being on the wrong side of 30 and having a chequered past, his last 2 yrs in the ESL have been hindered significantly due to recurring injuries like hamstring tweaks. So in essence,he's an older version of Foran

I still can't believe people stick up for Carney... short memories it appears... why on earth would you want this scumbag at our club?!?!

December 2006 - Carney is charged with mid-range drink driving and reckless driving following an incident in Goulburn.
February 2007 - Licence suspended for five years.

Carney is charged with drink driving and reckless driving, failing to stop when directed by police, negligent driving and driving while disqualified. He receives a suspended jail sentence.
May 2007 - Raiders put Carney on a rehabilitation plan.
June 2007 - Handed 200 hours of community service for pursuit and driving while his licence was suspended. Magistrate warns Carney he will “undoubtedly go to jail” if he commits another offence.
July 2008 - Carney allegedly urinates on a patron at a Canberra pub, however the complaint is withdrawn. He is, however, stood down indefinitely.
Aug 2008 - Handed a five-point rehabilitation plan with a clause that he cannot play again that season and must go on an alcohol ban until the end of 2012.
Aug 2008 - While suspended by the club, allegedly evicted from Goulburn club.
Aug 2008 - has contract terminated by the Raiders, with the NRL vowing not to register a contract with another club for 2009.

April 2009 - Nude photos of Todd Carney leak online after photos appeared on a second-hand mobile phone leant to a female customer by a Telstra shop
May 2009 - Carney is in an altercation outside a pub in Atherton, is arrested but later released without charge.
January 2010 - Carney and a second man allegedly injure another man by deliberately setting his pants on fire. The man suffered burns to his buttocks, upper thigh and genitalia.

February 2011 - Roosters release a statement confirming Carney had been charged with low-range drink driving. The club decides to stick by him.
April 2011 - Carney was found to be involved with teammate Anthony Watts when he was drinking and NRL management stand Carney down from Roosters indefinitely. He eventually returns in round 10.
August 2011 - Carney, Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nuuausala break Roosters agreement to not touch alcohol for two weeks after The Daily Telegraph reveals the trio were out drinking in the eastern suburbs. All three players face disciplinary hearings.

What a record! And yet Jamil Hopoate has been denied from making his NRL debut...

Interesting info about Hastings if true. He has been the big disappointment for me this season - was hoping he would develop and mature into a worthwhile bench asset for us - seems that won't be the case. Shame really as we could do with a good utility that can spark some attack.

As for Carney ? My memory is that his goal kicking isn't that flash anyway, so if that is some sort of justification for signing him then forget it.

There was hope that his relationship with Barrett and the kick up the arse he got when he left the Roosters would see him mature a little...

He carries on at training a bit; throws his ego around a bit and then when he got dropped back to NSW Cup, he played one blinder and then when he didn't feature the following week in FG, he started "turning it up" again. There was a match against Newcastle at McDonald Jones stadium where he didn't get tackled once. He just kept dishing off to his edge backrower or kicking midfield bombs.

Our NSW Cup team have won 7 out of 8 games when Cullen has played and struggled badly when he has been called up to FG...Cullen is well ahead in the pecking order now simply because of his superior attitude.

One other thing; you'll remember that his performances off the bench were pretty good and he can certainly do a job off the bench as a utility...that's not the issue though. It's the attitude problem that has the club concerned. If it came down to footy, he would have played again off the bench at times this year. He is kicking stones again.

Look - back in the days he was simply a wild child and had a stint up North at Atherton and I was really keen on the idea of Manly giving him an opportunity...and not suprised 1 bit, when he came back to the NRL and instantly carve up the opposition - was...an absolute gun.
Besides age and constant injury problems, has also had 100 off field issue's that seem unresolved and as a bloke who believes in giving YOUNG kids who have made a few mistakes a chance of redemption - this old dog does not fit the bill and to be fair to players already on our books - would look to give Hastings, Cullen...even young Wright a crack before Carney...don't forget we also signed that young gun from Sharks....spend money - Wisely.

Thought as much. I guess the reason they recruited the young half from the sharks. Apparently he will be part of the NRL squad next year

It's a pity Cletus didn't have a bit of Cullen's go about him.

Boys will be boys............

Its a tried and proven fact that teams work better with one half that can provide the brilliance and one that is the steady rock, the organiser (it also helps to have a hooker and fullback who can organise - see Melbourne).

We already have Cherry for the duration with his contract and he provides the brilliance but also has proven he works far better with a halves partner who does the grunt work (so to speak). Carney isn't an organiser nor is he the steady one.

Carney on cheap coin would put a cherry on top of Joels signing, and Id expect a top 4 finish to be looming.

Carney or even Hodkinson wouldn't be a bad pick up either way. At the very least they would provide an experienced cover should the unthinkable happen and DCE gets injured....or even if Qld shock and actually pick him for Origin.
