The rub of the green seems to go with opposing sides more often than not these days, and in a perfect world that shouldn't happen. But perfect worlds are for story books and dreams, and out of all the worlds the NRL is about the least perfect world about
We keep hearing that the "refs are only human" and fair enough too. They make mistakes. But as we are all human we all feel resentment , anxiety, hostility as well and some of it is subconscious and sometimes we act subconsciously even against our better judgement
Manly over the last 15 or 20Â years have systematically made it tough on the Refs and rightfully so.You have to push the envelope. Bob Fulton and his comments about the now referee coach Bill harrigan just wont go away about the cement truck. When toovey was playing , most games i thought he was trying to take flight with his arms up and down at every play the ball, the only thing keeping him grounded was the backpressure he built up gobbing off at them
Then we have Des who has try to retire every Ref in the game, get them glasses, insult there intelligence at every press conference and rarely takes the blame for any loss on the chin. I hate watching it . Choc is always in the refs face demonstarting to the point that he is doing the team more harm than good. The game is full of stats and its not lost on the Refs that manly has been one of the most penalised teams for yonks and they don't seem to want to fix it
Manly have an image problem where it counts and they need to rectify it as part of the process of going forward. There is a certain arrogance or disdain about the refs when they adjudicate Manly games and to be honest can you blame them. They know they are going to be tested, abused and made the scapegoat , almost no matter what.
This kind of reminds me of the which came first the chicken or the egg. Did Manly start it or did the Refs but there is no doubt the Manly club has been at war with the adjudicators like no other team i can recall. Surely there are better battles to fight
Have we become bad sports
In saying that i really feel sorry for the way Jamie was treated yesterday. No respect whatsoever. Its not his fault but its baggage he has to carry im afraid. This everyone is against us attitude that Manly has built up is getting very tedious. The glass is half empty stuff and maybe its reflected elsewhere as well
Its not e perfect world but its the real world
