Nailed it Pete, dont begrudge the kid the money but tell the truth , it was always all about the money and I agreed ( in confidence ) last year.

Totally agree. If Foran was honest kelly would of had no choice but negotiate better for DCE. Foran sat back said nothing and let DCE go to the Titans. At least DCE is still putting in as well. Foran our current ? highest paid player playing like he just couldn't be bothered.

This is the massive inequity that is the salary cap.
The NRL seem to not care that certain clubs have much greater access to third party money than others.
Who knows how much of Foran's contract is actually part of the cap. Surely he can't be registered for 300 with 900 being in third party payments?
Under this scheme, you can assemble any roster you like and stay under the cap.

The NRL put a value on the player. So Foran's value you would assume would be around the 5 to 700,000 mark and that has to be in the cap. Then anything after that does not count.

Given that Manly lost DCE before Foran they would have offered Foran more money which would have matched the Eels offer. Foran may be only on $600k on the cap due to TPA's and whatnot. Might be a blessing in disguise though, Manly have ****house forwards and halves can't work well behind a terrible pack. It's a shame that there aren't any good forwards on offer, maybe take Darcy back?

Somewhat true. A player can accept a deal worth $1 million but this could be made up of $500k in wages, $50k for Motor Vehicle Allowance, $100k in marquee player allowance, and then $350k in TPA's. Even if the NRL deem his value to be $700k only $500k will be counted towards the official cap.

Get rid of him. He's just a cancer, and you don't want his ilk soiling the rest of the playing group. In fact, if DCE / Foran were gone, I'd be back cheering louder than ever.

The Eels are already on the rise, and I fear that they may challenge for a premiership in the next 2-4 seasons; it will make Foran look like a world beater, when in actual fact, the Eels would have probably made it that far without him anyway.

I asked two professionals who make their living from rating teams and players’ value and they both had Foran’s value between 550k and 600k. It remains to be seen how this buying market-share strategy will affect the Eels, as they have paid out $400,000 a season greater than Foran’s club, the Sea Eagles, and well over double what is generally considered his true worth to a salary cap.

Everyone agrees he is a great competitor and an asset to any club, but it is relative to value percentage into the cap. If Eels fans think that Foran is going to turn up next season and finally be the long-lost organiser that has been sadly missing since Sterlo and Brett Kenny then they are in for a disappointment. Foran will bring leadership and stability, but he is not an on-field general with a brilliant tactical kicking game.

He has said that it is not about the money but that he wanted his game to go to a new level, which is a nice slap in the face to his coach Geoff Toovey and specialist halves coach Andrew Johns.

Kieran, you have just completed the deal of the century and congratulations to you, but let’s get it right – it was all about the money.
