The decision which needs to be made

Even at 30-26 when we were going forward we never looked like scoring in that 10-12 minutes left.We need better set plays that was frustrating to watch.

Lacking all over the field. Very poor halves. Very unfit. Very poor defense. Very poor attitude. Tom Turbo is just horrible lately. Green woeful.
What is It with Tom these past two weeks? He looks like he just got out of bed. Is he injured? Perhaps the rigours of a tough pre season and first 6 rounds and expectation are just too much. He is only 19 I suppose.

The attack from both the forwards and the halves is killed constantly by Api. Green is also struggling with organising the team. I suggest moving Green to 9 and dropping Apia to Blackstone (is there anything lower than that? If so, send him there). Hastings would then replace Green and partner DCE

Yes we looked horrible today. But the Storms ability to bend the rules at every ruck was frustrating to watch. The way they get away with slowing the ruck down in every tackle is beyond me. Its almost normal for them to always get away with it coz it happens so often and everyone is desensitised to it. The only way we could get on top was via a offload because their line is always set rushing up due to the slowing of the ruck. Not saying they didn't deserve the win but these double standards in the game need to stop.

I was really impressed by Hastings tonight, he looked as though he had a calming influence when he came on. Love Api but tonight he was pretty poor.

Tom was one if the best today, he looked dangerous all game and was really trying out there. Our left edge was horrible in defense in the first half. Winterstein and green. To our credit we fought back and really should of won it in the end.

DCE has to start stepping up and help marshal the go forward directness, playing unders all day during go forward sets does not promote a roll on through the middle.
(Throws an under pass to a forward then turns his back and positions himself deep two passes away on the opposite side is not marshaling any consistent go forward or allowing him to play at the line the next play)

Green has been trying to add straightness and organizing in many go forward sets but really this should be DCE's job. Yes Barrett wants DCE to have more freedom to roam around but that should be more in relation to attacking sets or attacking structures, marshaling and leading the troops through the middle should not be overly reliant on Green.

What Melb do so well is Smith and Cronk play and distance themselves short and flat along the add line, this promotes straightness and marshals the troops to continue the roll on----even in attack Cronk will set himself up short and flat.

Basically every other club passes too long with depth from dummy half allowing time for the defensive line to slide and read the play with numbers, it also promotes side ways movement.

Yes good direct hard running go forward makes this positioning a lot easier but Melb are also capable of doing so even in the red zone without go forward runs to assist----just overall better structure that engages defenders with decoy runners that look like they may genuinely get the ball.

Green's defense is really, really poor. It stood out significantly today. He has plenty of on line misses in him.
100% this
I thought this thread was Hastings for anGreen...Api had again, due to Storm ALLOWED to control that ruck...some poor service - his defence was top class and threw some deft passes including that blind ball for Winterstein to score....Green defensively, was the catalyst for 3 + MELBOURNE tries in the first half....

And we only lost by 4 against that. Well done boys we can't be far off.
