The Manly Sea Eagles are planning to create a sports hub in Kawana that could include a licensed club, as part of moves to boost their profile on the Sunshine Coast.

The Sea Eagles swooped on the region late last year, forming a partnership with the former Sunshine Coast Falcons FOGs Cup rugby league club, which has become a feeder team for last year’s NRL runners-up.

The historic deal virtually guaranteed the Coast a path into the Queensland Cup from 2009. The Falcons are now known as the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles and have received about $1 million worth of investment from Manly.

Sea Eagles co-owner Scott Penn said the club wanted to make the Sunshine Coast its second home and was considering a range of options to build its presence here.

Mr Penn said building a licensed club at Stockland Park was just one of several possibilities.

“It is something people have been talking to us about, ever since we committed ourselves to the deal (with the Falcons),” Mr Penn said. “We are looking at property opportunities or options for licensed clubs, a range of things that will assist in extending our brand.”

Mr Penn said the Sea Eagles club was committed to the region long-term and any moves towards constructing new facilities would be about 18 months away.

It has been suggested that a Sea Eagles leagues club would be built on the Stockland Park land that fronts the Nicklin Way and is often used for concerts and other entertainment activities.

The second option would be behind the current clubhouse building, with a frontage to Sportsmans Parade.

:) The Hervey bay Sea Eagles sounds good too!
