The biggest worry would be 1nglis and Chambers up against Mitchell and Roberts.

If the Qld centres are on their game, they will carve up those two because neither can defend to save themselves. Sure Mitchell and Roberts are great with the ball in hand, but their defensive games are piss poor.

Personally, my NSW backline would have been:

Tom Trbojevic, Nick Cotric, Latrell Mitchell, Euan Aitken, Josh Addo-Carr, James Maloney, Nathan Cleary. I think Mitchell offers more than Roberts who although damn quick....that is all he has.

I can't believe they are going with Tommy at all. He makes too many mistakes for Origin football. Yes, he is a potential superstar, but well short of a starting spot in Origin IMO. He averages 3 mistakes per game, and with the added pressure of Origin, he could cost NSW the game with his dropped balls. I wish him well, hope he is the MOM, but he is a risk for sure.

I think that is part of the reason why he's on the wing and not at fullback right now.

But, while he is on the wing for NSW, he will be the next Kangaroos fullback.

He's lazy. He looks like he does everything in slow motion defensively; he thinks he's got stuff covered but sometimes doesn't.

Tom is on a hiding to nothing being put on the wing. Plenty of reputations have been damaged in the past and in my opinion it’s a specialists position , I wish him the best but he will have to at his best on the night.

Spot on. He is the heir apparent to the fullback throne. Even when we were picking him to pieces, the big guns Meninga et al were talking him up big time. They want him in there to get some experience and confidence at the highest level. He is the chosen one.

Tom would have to be a little more urgent at the back and pick up his deference, but when the game is going from one end to the other and with players getting tired, he would kill it with open space, would suit his attacking game perfectly. He'll mature over the next couple of years and be the long term full back imo. Too much talent

I agree, but Freddy has gone with an "let's outscore them" approach, not a "lets save tries" approach. I don't mind it. Also Tommy covering out on the wing will help with the defensive lapse for the centre but also cause some with his positioning

I also think he'll go to a completely new level with that raw speed and skill around him, and bring that back to club level. Ony reason I didn't want him in, was because I wanted him here for Manly ! Hahaha

I remember Wolfman having a shocker with his hands in his Origin debut. But Tommy can rest assured that no matter how bad he goes he will still have Steve Turner and Anthony Quinn covered.

They always drop a winger and a second rower.

Playing in an unfamiliar position outside poor defenders is a recipe for disaster.

I cant believe the backline has Maloney, Mitchell and Roberts, none of whom can tackle.

I don't know why people think the wing would be so unfamiliar to Tom, its not like he's never played there before.....

To me Tom's early years in rep footy will be a lot like what we saw from players like Dale Shearer and Andrew Ettingshausen. Best position is fullback, but his versatility and speed will see him, especially at Origin level, play mostly in the centres or on the wing.

I said last year and I stick by it. At Origin level he'll be a winger or centre because Tedesco has the jump on him for fullback having got their first. But at test level he will be the Kangaroos next fullback because I don't think Mal Meninga rates Tedesco all that highly, plus he believes Valentine Holmes is a winger and not a fullback.
