If parramatta manage to sign Hiku I'll just about grab all of Ian Shubert's salary cap documents and eat every last page.

They'd probably provide more use through nutrition than keeping the competition fair.

G'day all,How anyone could denigrate Matt Ballin after all he has done over the time he has been at the club is beyond me.He has been as integral to our success as anyone and his service and dedication to our club deserves better. The fact that he is one of the most genuine and nicest guys around is reflected in the comments of us the supporters and i am yet to see a bad word said against his character. To me it is more a true reflection of the lowness of character of those that would even begin to consider referring to him in such a disparaging manner.
And while I am at it what a hypocrite is Brett Stewart after all his outrage at the "disrespecting of his bro"and now being complicit in the shafting of another great loyal servant of our club and being happy to go along with it without a peep.Got a different idea of what constitutes loyalty and mateship to me,but then again he got an extension and upgrade while everyone else is getting shafted so I guess its easy to see where his loyalty lies.
cheers mike

One other thing they mentioned to me, was that at the end of "Cafegate 33 1/3", Zth said to TB that "don't worry Trent we will see lots of fluff pieces in the media from when you take over taking any pressure off you and making us look real good" (the words may not be exact but along these lines regardless).

AND what have we seen to date " lots of fluff pieces in the media", with little to no pressure on Barrett after the season launch.

I'm not sure if its Bozo calling the shots and ZtH firing the bullets, but their plan is coming along nicely for them isn't it??
If we lose a few games early Barrett won't know what hits him with the pressure that he will be under. Not even ZTC will be able to relieve the pressure

They had Hoppa counted at 800k, so would have monies freed up if their lawyers win the case.

Hiku should be with the Warriors. Which he knocked back this year to stay for less at Manly, poor bugger

Everyone was complaining about speed in the Backline! Now we are signing walker and people are complaining that he isn't as good Peta Hiku. Seriously? Walker can play all the same positions as Peta, fullback, wing, centre and 5/8 that is not an excuse. Hikus weakness's are as follows:

Poor defensive reads on the wing e.g. Attempting too many intercepts
Speed
Thinks he can tip on, but he can't e.g. Watch broncos vs manly r21
Fitness
He sits around at training, the sloth
Plus no creativity
No vision

G'day all, Walker is not a fullback, watch his game at fullback for souths v broncos last year.I work with diehard souths fans and they are still spewing about it especially his 30 metre attempt at tackling the broncos winger who still scored.
cheers mike

No way Walker is as good a fullback or winger even as Hiku. Centre I think he would be a better option and 5/8 possibly but def' not the other 2 positions. I have nothing against Walker though I think he would be a fine addition as a fill in 5/8 for 2016 and then slot into 1 of the centre positions that will prob' be vacant come 2017.
Hiku sits around at training? I will take your word for that. I personally havent seen him sitting around at training, have you?

I think we need to stop comparing Hiku and Walker. Walker will be signed as a running 5/8 and Hiku is a solid utility. Two completely different rolls in the team. We need a running 5/8 and we have no room for Turbo in the side.
Makes scenes to me

I am not convinced that Peta Hiku is a defensive liability out wide. In the centres he is very strong defensively, but I don't think our problems out wide are limited to Hiku. Everyone who's played on our right wing in the past few seasons has been crucified on here at one point or another for defensive lapses. Hiku, Blair, even Tommy. They've all copped a bagging for their defense, or lack of it.

I've lost count of the amount of times during our matches where we've conceded a try out wide with our winger facing a near on impossible task to stop it, yet on here we're (I have done this myself) bagging the crap out of the winger for poor defense. Yet when you look at the replays, quite often in those situations the opposition should have been stopped by those inside before they even got into a try scoring position. The wingers often cop the brunt of criticism when its those further infield not doing their job.

The problem is we don't have specialised wingers here at the club, but fill ins. Which is the first problem. But our fill in wingers keep moving in on defence, they don't have the quickness to get back and get caught out. The old saying you mark your man, stay outwide and the others should slide , but they don't do it in any of the grades and instead holes are made.

If there is an overlap its very difficult to defend against that as a winger but sliding down with your other players helps. I have watched games including the u20s where the poor winger is stuck trying to defend his man with other opposition players and the rest of the team are too tired to move down and help

Have a look what happened to winger Merritt in Origin, stupidly he was told to only mark Inglis, but should have been concentrating marking his winger Boyd who scored twice on his edge as Merritt moved in, no communication with Morris and others.
But Merritt missed his man twice and he got punted.

The same happened recently with winger Tupou in Origin, he didn't mark his man, missed a couple of tries on his edge as he moved in, no communication with Jennings and he also got punted.

Communicate is so important and getting players to slide across. The club does not teach this, instead too many holes are made.

Another problem is our fill in wingers don't get back on the 5th tackle to be ready to catch the ball, Tommy and the other fill in wingers have got caught out a few times with this and I remember the Souths winger Grey chased the ball from the kick ran past Tommy and scored twice

Let's hope his immortality gets better results for Manly than it has done for the Blues and the Roos @

Oh c'mon, it is not really THAT clever. What has he had to work with? Maybe one of the worst group of players to ever represent NSW. Be honest with yourselves, NSW have been atrocious for a decade. We win every once in a while because QLD probably get bored, or NSW get lucky. Each year I look at the team and shake my head. What the **** is Bozo supposed to do with an absolute pile of crap? Talk about putting lipstick on a pig, so you can take off those sunnies because I ain't buying...

FACTS
Hiku is a special player !
Best position is full back ! second is centre ( hes not a specialist winger )
Geoff Toovey and Dave Warrick were responsible for the recruitment !
On bad advice from Andrew Johns were advised to go all out to sign Foran and Evans !
They offered an extension to Matai to keep Foran ( one centre spot gone )
Brett Stewart contract was extended ( full back position gone )
If you want to win comps you got to make these calls !
Dave Warrick and Tooves had tough decisions to make !
You can see why BOZO was called in !
Although i think hiku can play wing ! i dont think he is the ultimate winger ! And this is why he has been moved on !

Very sad we wish you all the best Peta Hiku thanks for the memories mate ! hope to see you in the colors again one day !

Will definately become one of the best no 1's in the game !

Trbojevic could play on the wing and play well ! And hiku to full back maybe... But Brett Stewart has been offered an upgrade !

They have chosen the prince of Brookvale and sacrificed Hiku

Tough decisions .... All the best Peta you always put 100% with our colors ! Actually won us many games !

Every one now thank Peta for his service !

I'm not sure exactly what was discussed with Snake & Gift, or exactly what Snake was "onboard" with. Onboard with Barrett as coach perhaps? And generalised big changes ahead? Here is what Mark said which is quite non-specific about this. Perhaps @Mark from Brisbane could clarify?

In came, the two Stewart brothers, then ZtH, and the conversation was fairly low key (my friends were siting at the next table and could hear everything), prior to the Stewart's leaving ZtH said to Snake" , now are we all good with this because there's going to be some pain coming.

5 minutes later in walks Barrett, first thing said was " Snakes on board".

Then ZtH and Barrett proceeded to discuss every single player and wether they were to be shafted or not ...

They call him the sloth
They call Vautin "Fatty" and he was reputedly a terrible, terrible trainer.
Toovs was not a great trainer, and hated the weights and steered clear of them.

And no-one would question what they provided on the field.

In the same way attacking players can be overly structured and not play to what they see players in defense will go into Autopilot mode and rush in---which has it's advantages and disadvantages.

As you stated good communication and a knack to pick the right times to ignore Autopilot mode is what sets the good defenders apart from the average ones.

That game was a bit of an anomaly though. It was the 4-0 final that was very tightly contested with a lot of completed sets in the middle that lead to kicks and therefore kick returns.

Even Brett would have cracked the 100m kick returns without even making a line break in that game.
