Talking before Canterbury training at Belmore yesterday, Hasler defended Manly's slow start to the season - not surprising for someone who prides himself on boosting rival teams in the lead-up to a match.


But he went into great detail when he went into bat for the Sea Eagles, a team he still believes are the benchmark of the competition despite a hot-and-cold start to the year.
