Others have said this and I heard it directly from someone recently (who was in the Manly system at the time) - Toovey often asked the senior players like Lyon, B&G Stewart and Matai what they wanted to do at training.

The 2013 effort may owe a lot to Brad Arthur’s input as the defence coach.

Toovey will never return whilst ever the Penn family have their tentacles snaking their way throughout the steaming, putrescent, decaying bowels of the club. Everyone should just accept that reality. Nothing much will change until they and their fellow wreckers (e.g. Wolman) get the f-ck out and sell to someone who knows what their doing in the footballing business.

I suspect that deep within the collective hearts of the Penn family, lies the spirit of the vendetta against their enemies - both real and perceived. Toovey copped it. Now it’s Hasler’s turn, again.

This obsession with getting a RL franchise in NY is the most ridiculous thing. It will never take. Americans are proud and patriotic and their football is massive. Most things Aussies do in their eyes are strange even if there is some quirky appeal, like watching crazy things people do on YouTube. Penn is an idiot.

yeah but ... there's over 300 million of them ... plus a lot of aussies living there ... and remember, the money is in the broadcast and a new vehicle for gambling ...

Yes it does seem that they love their Vendetta’s.

Look I love tooves but he is not the answer

If the calls are for a different approach then why would we pick up someone who has not coached in years? Someone who was by all accounts a pretty straight forward coach

100% Tooves should be involved in the club but he is not the answer to our problems....unless he has some big account money coin hidden away!

Still a bit of work to do I think.

4 teams, and they're all based in Florida!

I think their cricket is better organised...and you should see some of the pitches they play on!

(yes, even that's televised.) - Which is probably your point.

The power struggle is over: the Penns won and now must do as they think best. With them in outright charge, Bozo (not our esteemed Feathered Friend, thankfully) passed and Arko well and truly in retirement the whole "need Manly DNA" thing is over, imo. Des will want to get better results next year or when his contract ends they will replace him with the best head coach then on the market, seems there is always a few. I don't get vibes any of our lower-grade/specialist assistant coaches are ready for that step, anyone got any feelings on that?

I would personally welcome Maguire if we had to lose Des, I think he is a good coach who was on a Losertrain hiding to nothing at WT. Good luck with that shower Benji.
In 2018 Maguire's preference was the Tigers over us, that was one fck up, another fck up was to allow a film crew into his inner sanctum, no to Madge

Great post. We also used to have a much a stronger junior comp and A Grade comp. I remember reading that our A grade used to be one of the strongest comps in Sydney.

It seems with demographics changing on the peninsula rugby union is much stronger than rugby league now in terms of juniors from under 6 to under 18.

There are so many junior rugby clubs and I was reading the other day about Manly Savers Rugby club who are one of the fastest growing junior rugby clubs in the country. They’ve gone from one senior team to multiple senior teams and multiple teams in junior age groups from under 8 or 10 upwards in the last two years.
And soccer. My two nephews in Newport play the round game as do all their friends.

If we were a serious club with serious aspirations, Hasler should be gone on Monday. But we aren't a serious club are we!

He should never been allowed back.

But now he is here he might as well stay imo.

I think the pick of the bad bunch is flanno he sounds like he takes no prisoners and some roids may help these plodders in our team😂

I dont think the whole DNA thing is over at Manly feathered friend

Manlys DNA is all about winners and winning

Manly winners like Our Incomparable Immortal , Cliffy Lyons , Wombat and Jamie Lyon

Did not come from Manly but came into Manly and so will other Winners in the future

As far as the power thing with Mr penn is . He is only as powerful as his winning club .

Des needs to do what he does best and that is start to win again . But to win again he needs an upgrade to his roster

There should not be any excuses for Maguire at the Tigers . He was there long enough to make a difference and he didnt
