And his mother looms as his biggest obstacle after expressing concerns Manly's enforcers would target him. "You don't know what he's up against, someone (in the Manly side) could be disrespectful and maim him," Sharon Lockyer said

She says that Manly would be out to deliberately hurt her son, we're not in the 70's anymore. This will put pressure on the NRL and the referees to penalise anyone who comes close to his head. May be she'd be better off telling him not to play.

Once on the field he's fair game.

Heard it all now. He's such a god that its probably disrespectful to tackle him.

Just hand him the trophy now.

What do we do, just turn our backs on him and let him limp to the try line and score everytime he touches the ball?

Come on NRL - show some leadership and rule him out.

It wouldn't be a good look for western Sydney mothers who wont let their little Johnys play NRL. (Remeber the comments on the fight a few weeks back?)

Think of the children!!

This all smacks of similar talk before the 1997 drug final where Johns had a punctured lung.

Geez NRL - show some leadership. Why is Gallop very silent on all of this? Oh that's right he's very buzy and talkative on Gus' media column by a rival newspaper. He probably doesn't have time to comment on this I suppose.

Look at the cretin who wrote that article ben "whiteant" dorries

Sharon and Darren....noice!

Any relation to Sharon and Darren McLaren?

Relax Shazza...Justin Hodges plays for your mob...

How funny is the disrespectful line get a grip.

I can understand a mothers fears for her sons safety but it's abit over the top

Darrens mum, Sharon, doesn't want him to play. His sister Karen and brother Aaron don't either.
C'mon Darren .. listen to Sharon, Karen and Aaron.

disrespectful hahaha that is class A champagne comedy right there

Langlands entered his last game as Australia's most capped player, Australian captain, four times grand final winner, later judged one of the 6 rugby league immortals of the 20th century. The press built it up all week as the Langlands fairytale. Langlands felt pressured to be the hero and play injured.

Now the first thing everyone thinks of when his name comes up is his last game, causing his team to be thrashed by being a total turnstile, and those white boots. His legacy was to be remembered as a subject of ridicule.

Maybe Lockyer's not old enough to realise the stakes he's playing with. But Griffin has backed him into a corner, and there's no way out.

Realistically, Des should get on the front foot on this issue and say we don't care if he plays or not. But, we can't be held accountable for any knocks he gets. It's a game of footy and he WILL get hit in the face at some stage. It's not fair on us if there is a perceived no go zone around Lockyer by the referees or video ref due to all the media hype. If Darren plays it should be at his own risk.

heard Sharon speak, must have grown up with Pauline Hanson.

If anyone hits Darren they will have to "Please explain"

Shaz should slander Beale, the Player who ended the fairytale for her son.

He has got to play; the team has nothing to play for if he doesn't; they've been harping on this motivation for such a long time now, "we're sending out Locky a champion..." that if he doesn't show, the team has to dig a well in another place to find some fresh motivational water.
