A Tribute To Ken Irvine

The fastest NRL player to contest the 2009 premiership will be known early next month
at North Sydney Oval with staging of the URM Rugby League's Fastest Man Sprint over 100 yards carrying $10,000.00 in prize money, 1st: $5,000.00. 2nd $2,000.00. 3rd
$1,000.00. 4th $500.00. 5thto 8th $400.00.

The rugby league players race is one of the three feature events on the inaugral North
Sydney Sprint Classic Carnival to be held on Friday Night December 12 as a tribute to
North Sydney's favourite sportsman Ken Irvine who successfully combined athletics and
rugby league all time record 212 tries in his career.

North Sydney Council, North Leagues and United Resource Management in association with Events du Monde and New South Wales Athletic League have set down $30,000.00 programme to determine Australia's fastest man and woman and rugby league player.

Women sprinters will contest the North Sydney Women's Sprint carrying $10,000.00 in
prize money, male sprinters, the Norths Leagues Club Ken Irvine Gift also $10,000.00.

The rugby league players sprint will be held over 100 yards the distance Ken Irvine set
a world professional record of 9.3 secs in 1963, the North Sydney Bears Ken's club of
16 years has put up a $2,000 bonus if any player can break Ken's record.

Seven NRL first grade clubs have nominated a player to contest the event along with Ken Irvine's old club the bears nominating a player from their NSW Premier League Squad.

The race will be started by Ken's Irvine's arch rival on the track and playing field
Mike Cleary AO.

CEO"S and coaches of the clubs have taken the event seriously and have selected the
best young talent from their 2009 season first grade squads now in summer pre season
training.

NRL Clubs who have nominated for the event are:

Manly: Jake Lingard

Canberra: Michael Brophy

Penrith: Michael Jennings.

Parramatta: Sam Kelso.

Bulldogs: Ben Barba.

Gold Coast: Shannon Walker.

Tigers : Coedi Towney.

Wests: Shannon McDonnell

North Sydney Bears: Ricky Morris.

Players will contest event in full club gear and invited to attend media launch at
North Sydney Oval, 10.30am-11.30am , Tuesday December 9 and recieve some advice from Mike Cleary on how to use starting

Ken Irvine might have been a Bears star,  but he saw the light and had to move to Manly for it to shine.  72 & 73.

Yes they pissed off the storm today for continual salary cap breaches and for generally being a useless team of ****wits.  The bears are back and on the road again. 

Lingard played Toyota cup last year.  Didn't realise that he was that fast though. 
 
With Snake out he is probably next fastest, though Robbo has a bit of go about him too
 
Robbo seems to need a bit of lead time to wind up.  I would have thought Williams was very fast from a standing start over 80 metres.
