Have the Sea Eagles actually ever played in Manly? Would a pre season game be any good on Manly Oval to kick start local sponsors and interest?

In answer to your question have they ever played in Manly the answer is no.
According to ray Chesterton's book Manly Sea Eagles the team they love to beat, Manly council heatedly rejected an application to use Manly oval ensuring it's use for rugby union.
We have played at Brookie from the start.

Thanks Harvies. Decided to look it up in the newspapers.

Manly Oval to Union

Manly Council has granted Manly Rugby Union a further three years lease of Manly Oval under the same terms and conditions as previously. Manly Rugby League had
been making every effort to secure some playing days at Manly- Oval. Full control, however, will still be invested in the Manly Rugby Union. Other football bodies desiring to use the oval will have to make application to Manly RU, which is certain to refuse the Rugby League use of the ground.

How the f*ck you find that?
So it was still going on 3 years after we began?
Parking would be impossible...

Seven years before Manly entered in 1947.

RUGBY LEAGUE AT MANLY.http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article17635067
(1939, October 25). The Sydney Morning Herald
The Manly Warringah Junior Rugby League, in a letter to the New South Wales Rugby League telling of a successful season said that it was the ambition of the Junior League to have a senior district club established. The letter stated that there had been 16 junior League teams as against six Rugby Union teams in the district this year. There was good reason to expect additional teams in the League, but the letter suggested that the head body should endeavour to make some arrangement with Rugby Union and the Manly Council, whereby the League Juniors could obtain some dates on Manly Oval. Brookvale Oval, which has been the headquarters of the junior league, Is now occupied by the military authorities.

"Down here. Manly is considered the home of Rugby Union.
"There was no request by the League for Manly Oval. Otherwise that, too, would have been considered."
The Manly publicity officer (Mr. T. Boatwright) described the League's protest as a "storm in a teacup."
"The trouble is that Manly Council favors Rugby Union, and its neighbor, Warringah Shire, is keen about Rugby League," he said.

It has a cricket pitch so I doubt that our soft players would like to play on that Reminds them of North Sydney oval in the old days

As far as I am aware, other than Finals at the SCG and SFS and the old match of the day games at the SCG, Manly have only ever played its home games in Sydney at Brookvale Oval (does the 2011 GF at ANZ count as a home game since we were the higher ranked team?). The club apparently wanted to play games at Manly Oval from the start but the Manly Council was firmly in rugby unions corner and the move was blocked. Warringah Shire on the other hand had no such problems in allowing Manly to use Brookvale Oval.

Excuse the possibly stupid question but is this when we picked the Warringah in our name. Were we just going to be Manly Sea Eagles originally if Manly Oval was a go?!

To overcome concerns that the population in the area wasn't big enough to have a team the committee cleverly used the name of the junior league, formed in 1932, Manly-Warringah.
